How Often Do you weigh yourself?
I weigh daily, mostly because I don't hold myself to the same accountability if I weigh only once a week. If I obsessed more about the daily flux, I think I would go to once a week. Personality influences the choice, I think--we have to be good to ourselves as we do this, and find what's most encouraging.

I've also read that weighing daily, over all, tends to be more successful for people.

Daily analysis
So, about 250 calories over what I aimed for today.

Some good, some bad. I had to participate in my daughter's birthday celebration. I took a very small piece of cake, which I could have just eaten three bites of, if I had thought of it. I drank 1% milk instead of eating ice cream. My son made her pudding pops, which he was so proud of that I ate one of those too. That's most of the extra 250 there, so if I forego the cake for the rest of the week, I might actually stay on target.

Moderation, Failure, and Holding Myself Accountable
Thanks for the replies.

This is the tough month. The youngest is 6 today, starts kindergarten on Tuesday. We are having the family birthday today, but we are throwing a bigger one later this week. (My husband and I fortunately agree that our kids don't get big deal birthday parties each year, just kindergarten, 10 year old, and probably 16).

My eldest is also a September birthday, although there won't be a party. And amongst the cousins, about six other kids have birthdays this month. Plus a new baby due, and the beginning of the year ice cream social--September is worse than December/January around here.

So I'm planning on gearing up by visiting often, and offering/receiving support.

I definitely appreciate the replies.

Moderation, Failure, and Holding Myself Accountable
Hello,

I lost 23 lbs last year on the Zone. I got tired of the sales pitch thing, plus found it difficult to be faithful to such low grain based carbs, especially being married to a Filipino.

I've been trying to focus on portion and balance, and recording. I'm doing very poorly right now, having gained back about 5 lbs, albeit slowly. In the past, each time I start to fail, I stop recording, so I've decided I'm just going to keep the record, let it sink it, make myself really see what I'm doing to myself.

In America, here, moderation is a sin. My view of what and how much to eat has become completely distorted, so I want to retrain myself to understand what I really need, vs. what is just indulgence.
