Best eye make-up tips for 40+ or even if you're getting close: Shadows--avoid dark colors except as accents or liner. Play with colored eye liner's instead. Eye liner--Keep eyeliner darker on upper eyelids, lighter on lower and only outside the eye lashes never inside between eye and lashes--except perhaps a pale baby blue liner on the lower inner lid which can make eyes look larger and help hide the red in the eyes. Avoid putting eye liner on inner eye area (meaning close to the nose) on upper and don't go inward past center of eye on lower lid keeping it on the outer lower lids only. Mascara--black on upper lashes and brown (or colors) on lower lashes for light hair colors, dark hair colors might even skip the mascara on lower lashes and simply use a brown or colored liner on lower eyelid. All this serves to keep the inner eye and below the eye lightened which helps hide the effect of any lines that are starting to show up there. Now is the time to start playing up the eyebrows too which gives the appearance of lifting the whole eye area. If upper eyelid area is deep set or narrow you might even cheat the eyebrow liner a tiny bit over the natural eyebrow hairs with a soft liner but not enough to make the eyebrows appear painted on. I'm 55 now, I know this works for me by experience. And make every effort to keep undereye area and T-zone between eyebrows moist. Dryness really shows up here and makes you seem older and tired. In my opinion it's more important to apply and reapply clear gels or creams during the day to moisturize this area rather than trying to cover lines with a concealer. Concealers almost always seem to collect in the lines, which isn't so pretty and makes your skin seem dryer. Also check the humidity in your house. If it's dry you might want to sleep with a humidifier in the room at night, and of course drink lots and lots of water to offset any dehydration caused by caffienated drinks and dry room air. Just FYI.
