I was scrolling through pages on FB and passed a posting on one of the Keto groups I follow. Someone had posted that she'd lost a lot of weight the first 2 weeks, but now the third week she had stopped losing weight and was "discouraged," so she was asking for advice on what to change or what to try next. As a Christian, that sounds so very familiar!! We pray and if we don't get the answer immediately we get "discouraged," and want to try something else. Everything doesn't come in instant easy access easy open immediate satisfaction packages. The best things in life are worth waiting for and sacrificing for. The popular saying in aerobics used to be, "no pain, no gain." While I don't agree with that (though I clearly remember that aerobic burn) it makes the point that it's going to cost something, and in the case of weight loss, it costs time. Perseverance--or "longsuffering" as scripture calls it--will help us see our goal faster than jumping from one method to the next. So stay the course and keep the faith.

Food for the Spirit
By Barry Bennett

Does our spirit need food? Let’s ask it another way: Does our spirit need communion with the Father?

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. (John 15:4-5)

Abiding in Him is spiritual food. The branch needs continual nourishment from the vine or it will dry up.

It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4)

Just as the body needs physical food, our spirits needs the food of God’s Word which is Spirit. We were created to draw our lives from communion with the Father. If we renew our minds to the knowledge of God and neglect to spend time with Him in communion, our faith will be mental and not truly spiritual.

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word that you may grow thereby. (1Peter 2:2)

The Word nourishes our spirit man. Though our spirit is complete and lacking nothing, that does not mean we can live a life that is separated from the Source.

And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. (1 Cor. 3:1)

Paul did not consider all Christians as ‘spiritual.’ Though they were born again, they hadn’t grown in the Word. Therefore, they were either carnal (sense ruled) or they were babes who had yet to grow.

That we should no longer be children….but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ. (Eph. 4:14-15)
