57 year old woman, never had a problem with weight in my life - never had to exercise - yeah, the type you love to hate! But as menopause approached, I began to gain, despite physical hard work I was doing, and at 53 I was about 25 pounds overweight. THEN I QUIT SMOKING!
Within 6 months I'd gained another 40 pounds. Then my mom was diagnosed with a rare cancer and my father began showing signs of dementia, and for the next three years I was so involved in taking care of them that my own well-being went by the wayside. I stayed fat. (But I stayed quit from cigarettes!)
Both parents have passed now and I am determined to get into shape and keep myself away from the medical profession for as long as possible! I do NOT want to go through what either parent went through during the last years of their lives, nor put my loved ones through the stress of caring for my physical body that is not able to assist in its own care. It's horrible for all involved.
We need to take responsibility for our own health as much as possible. Healthy foods in the right quantity, physical exercise, happy thoughts, loving friends - all contribute greatly to a whole, healthy person. That's what I want to be, please join me on the journey!
