Hermiones Mom's Journal, 17 September 2014

OK -- got my bloodwork done today, but of course have to wait a few days before I get the results. If my A1C comes back good, I will be so thrilled. That's my biggest worry. Then I went into the doctor's office and asked for a weigh-in -- lost 9.25 pounds since August 6, so that's a rate of 1.54 pounds per week, which is pretty much the rate at which I was losing the first time I did this -- so I'm satisfied with that. And I haven't really bumped up my exercise yet -- just walking the dogs this summer, since I had no energy at all after I got sick in June. Next week I'm going to start going to Curves and any day that the weather is decent, I hope to extend the morning walk. Carson is starting to settle down enough that it's not as nerve wracking to take him longer distances, and at least for now, Hermione seems to have the energy to go further. Maybe if I keep walking I can hold off the winter!

How is your girlfriend doing? Hoping she is getting well and will be back on her feet. I know what you mean about the A1C, I too am waiting for my Lab Results to come in the mail and am fearing what I will see. While I have been dedicated to my way of eating, it still gives me the shakes. You are doing fantastic and congratulations on your loss. Kudos to you for bumping up your exercising too. Have a great evening!

C67241-- my friend is home, but it's unclear to me how well she is doing. My fasting blood sugar tends to be on the high side, but my A1C is consistently normal, so I am always on pins and needles about this -- worrying that the day will come when the A1C is bad as well. But I know the best protection for me is to stick with low glycemic eating. So I'm sticking with it...

Well done on the eating and the weightloss and the exercise plan. You'll be at goal with no stress at all at this rate. Was your doctor happy? Very happy your friend is home. How will you find out how she's doing?

Heather -- spoke with my friend today. Yesterday was bad, but today was pretty good She says she just thinks she is going to have to be very patient and allow herself to heal. But so far -- she can eat popsicles and rice. I'm going to try to get up to see her over the weekend. Didn't speak to the doctor yet -- he will call me when he gets the lab results back. P.S. I ate chocolate cake today. That was my big splurge -- the first dessert I've had since last June, other than the non-dairy milkshakes. But it's really true that my tastes have changed: This was a great treat-- but not something I'm really missing very much anymore. So no one has to worry that 'm going to fall off the wagon!

I do hope you get to see her. Terrible thing to put your body through such changes. I guess we all do to one degree or the other. Glad your splurge was not so satisfying. That in itself is an accomplishment. Hope your lab results get back quickly.

Thanks Anewannie! You are my role model for persistence. Keep you fingers crossed that I can sustain this pace at least for a few months so I stay energized. Helewis - I know... but my friend was told she would certainly die if she did not lose weight fast, and the weight loss after the gastric bypass got her off almost all the meds she was taking for type 2, high blood pressure, etc. But for many people like her, there are trade offs, and those trade offs aren't always so good. I wish there was more publicity given to this aspect of gastric bypass, but you almost never hear about it.
