Just to add my 10 cents. Brown rice has 80% more arsenic than white rice, spoils faster and contains more anti nutrients than white rice. So every food item is better than something else and at the same time worse than something else. It just depends on what you need. So dear Fira_r, eat what you need and good luck with your journey. Ask for advice when you need it and ignore it when you don't. My advice included 😉

Does anyone know how I can change this new update to go back to my food diary being the first thing I see when I open the app?? Please help!

I used to be a brown rice die hard but, white cooks faster and tastes better. The difference nutritionally is minimal. I use rice during cutting and bulking, it is very versatile.

Oh I am a bodybuilder BTW. We don't just eat rice to bulk. It is a healthy carb. Even during weight loss you need some carbs to have proper metabolism. Different body types require different amounts of macros. Rice is a healthy carb, brown or white. Of course veggies are better but it is hard to hit your macros sometimes with just veggies.

Sorry this drives me nuts. You guys are not doing yourselves any favors if your carbs are too low. There is a huge difference between sugars and grains. And less carbs doesn't mean no carbs. Balance your macros to get results.

No such thing as "carbs too low".

Phil, I have a degree in Human Nutrition and I can tell you that there very much is such a thing as ”carbs too low". DDITTO has it spot on.

Congratulations, you have all the expertise of a third grader reciting the food pyramid.

No, the food pyramid is out of date. But, it was created by experts 😀

Susie423. If you change the filter on the new home screen from "Featured" to "Me" or "Buddies", you can at least get rid of everyone else.

Carbohydrates, grains included, quickly break down to sugar, antagonizing insulin. Not a problem for some, huge problem for others.

The carb controversy continues. 😁 I agree with sandersmjason, you need carbs. Complex carbs are choice, for me I use carbs to fuel my workout and recharge. I am picky, rice is not my preferred carb pick, I'd rather have a handful of skittles or jolly ranchers for the same result.

If carbs can be too low, how much does the average person require a day, minimally?
26 Apr 17 by member: @philrmcknight
We all have to poo. Fibrous carbs are necessary.

Nice use of the fiber card. lol

There is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate. There are essential fats/lipids. There are essential proteins/amino acids. But there is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate. We've been told all our lives that carbohydrates are essential to our diet when, in fact, our body doesn't need them at all and can produce any necessary glucose on it's own by processing protein. Scientific facts can't be ignored simply because "common concensus/opinion" says differently.

This is the stable of bodybuilders, eat it with pride and good luck!

For someone who is trying to gain weight though...it's irrelevant if they are necessary or not. Carbs will definitely help achieve that goal! Everyone has different goals though...so do what works for you! Stay positive!

Phil I am talking about healthy individuals with no medical conditions. Below a certain level of carbs you will get weak and tired and your metabolism will drop. It isn't necessary. You can eat almost all carbs if you are at a calorie deficit you will lose weight. You are healthiest with a proper balance. The real evil is not carbs, it is sugar. Fiber is a carb, you want plenty of it. Whoever mentioned spiking around workouts, I personally find it unnecessary if you eat balanced you won't crash after your workout. I have 19" arms so not spiking isn't too bad. And my energy is pretty steady through the day. Whatever everyone prefers. I just don't want to see people struggle because they boycott carbs or others make them feel guilty. Ive been there. White rice is not bad.

WarrenWinter had a photo garner about three hundred comments not too long ago. And DDITTO, yeah, nice back peddling. I'm not sure how big my arms are, probably close to 22", and I don't work out or eat any carbs to speak of.
