LATE SATURDAY NIGHT...

Been a busy couple of days. Mom had an episode yesterday where she was not able to speak properly, sounded kind of thick tongued, was just kind of out of it, and it happened very quickly. We were doing her menu and she just had this spell. Of course, I went straight to the nurses station and got the nurse, and soon there was a room full of nurses from her floor and the doctor from the ICU along with his nurses. They immediately transferred her to ICU so they could watch her more closely. After a few hours she improved, and I suspect that perhaps what happened was a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). The symptoms all fit. She is also having some vision problems in her left eye. They moved her back to the floor today, and she may come home on Monday. However, she still cannot urinate on her own. :(

I was not able to walk again yesterday, but I did pack a lunch and took it with me. Success on that front. My steps for yesterday were only at 5500. Epic fail there. Thursday's weren't much better at 5993. That said, I was able to get a walk today and am at 13978 for the day so far. I put in an application today at Kroger to work in the pharmacy. Keeping my fingers crossed that I can get on part time there, become full time in the future, and I would then have health insurance. That would be the answer to a lot of prayers.

I am going to church in the morning and then to the hospital. Hubby will be staying home. He has not had the chicken pox, and shingles are caused by the same virus, sooo, he could catch chicken pox from mom. He will be staying home until she is no longer contagious. We all have to wear gowns and gloves so we don't carry the virus outside of her room.

That is about all the news that's fit to print from my corner of the world, hope all is well in your's!

I will try to visit with all of you tomorrow when I get back from the hospital...in the meantime, please know how much I appreciate the prayers and thoughts that all of you have sent my family's way!

TTFN!!

~Stef~

Stef, that's so NOT an epic fail. You're doing great and with all that going on, I don't know how you got that many steps in. hugs to your mom and to you. It's got to be very hard.

Sorry to hear about your mom.... When I read the symptoms, I thought it sounded like a mild stroke - so looked up TIA - and apparently it is often referred to as a "mini stroke". I have had experience of strokes, as my dad had massive one when he was 64 - he couldn't speak or use one side of his body. They didn't hold out much hope for him, because it was such a big one - but, he did survive, and slowly recovered his speech and some use in his leg and arm. he lived another 15 years :-) without any further strokes. She is in the very best place, as early detection can help with recovery. Fingers crossed for you, for the job :-) and well done on the 13,000+ steps.

Hey Stef..I know this is hard on you..I am praying that your mom recovers quickly from this...I never knew that chicken pox caused this until my sister inlaw had the shingles...hers was right under her bra and went along there...It wasn't fun but she did get over it...Keep Dan safe from it..I know for a fact that its harder to cope with the chicken pox while an adult..Had a friend have them while as an adult.. I had them when young and have the marks to prove it..Love you to pieces...Sending big [[[[HUGS}}}...:O)

WOW! This is scary! I'm so sorry your mom is going thru all of this! Will for sure be keeping you all in my prayers! Hospitals are boring as all get out! But I did find the staff in the cafeteria's to be incredibly flexible, if I told them there were certain things I could not eat, they were more than willing to fix me something separate (but generally not right in the middle of a rush period.) No worries on the steps... you'll make up lost ground another time. Love to you!!!

Shingles sucks. I had a workmate who always got shingles when she was overworked, and then ended up with neuralgia. All my love and prayers for your mum's recovery, sweetie. xxx

You're doing just awesome with EVERYTHING....WOE and being the good daughter you always are to your mom. It sounds so difficult to juggle all these issues at one time...mom, WOE, keeping Dan "safe," and applying for a job! Kroger should most definitely hire you....you'd be great! In addition to hopefully getting insurance at some point, don't you also get a discount? That could sure help with the food bill.

Stef, I feel so badly for you, it just seems like one thing after another. I'm thinking about you and rooting for you! As someone above said, you are amazing and don't you DARE beat yourself up for not getting in enough steps! Lots of hugs and prayers to you!

Thanks, Heather...seems like just about the time I get on a good roll, something happens to derail me. But I refuse to let it! Have a great week my friend...hope the training is going well!

Pam, my grandmother had a stroke like that, came back from it, then had another one in the early 70's that left her paralyzed and unable to talk for the rest of her life. Dad had the one last year, which paralyzed his right side and left him unable to talk. His heart then stopped and he passed away the next day. It is soooo scary, it just happens so quickly. I sure hope that she gets to come home soon. As for the steps, that was a good day, but the others weren't so hot. Oh well, it is what it is! Thanks for the crossed fingers. :)

Bren, her poor hind end is so raw...I feel so sorry for her. She must be in so much pain, but she sure does not complain. I would be wailing if it was me. :) I am keeping a very close eye on Dan, don't worry! Thanks Bren...love you bunches!! HUGS...hope you are feeling better also.

Thanks so much, Paula...it is scary. The hospital staff has been wonderful...they have even been delivering pots of coffee to us in the room. We can go in and out, but have to gown and glove, then de-gown and de-glove to leave, then gown and glove again before we can go back in. Love back to you, my friend.

Thank you Sandy...on all counts. I am sure trying, but am a bit disappointed as it just seems like every time I get on a roll, something comes up that threatens to derail me. Not happening this time, though! As for the job, I am praying...yes, I would get a discount on food also! Have a great week...hugs!

Thank you Kyle, for the thoughts, hugs, and prayers...this has not been a good 9 months, but we will get through it. As for beating myself up, I am trying not to, but sometimes it's hard. Have a great week!
