RedHolly's Journal, 01 April 2013

As an Atkins dieter, I couldn't be more lucky. My husband is a butcher at Publix. He is also a master on the grill. For Easter dinner he cut five 1" thick ribeye steaks from a large rib roast and then grilled them to perfection. The steaks were so flavorful that there was no need to add carbs with any sauces. After one delicious steak, I was more than satisfied and logged ZERO carbs for my meal. It is a good thing I am not tracking calories though, cause that was a HIGH calorie steak! We make the perfect duo in the kitchen ... Meat Man + Atkins Wife. :)

Hey Tig! Yes, looks like we came back at the same time! The "carb monster" (as Stef calls him) has taken over my house the last year or so. I have eaten poorly on many occasions, but also ate moderately (aka low-cal/low-fat) on most occasions. It doesn't seem to matter. Carbs are my enemy. That, and I am a lot less active now that I am working from home 100% of the time. Uggh. BUT! The good news is, my body has not forgotten Atkins and is already heading in the right direction. I see that you are reliving success as well. Off we go! Glad to have my buddies back :) (BTW - Congrats on your awesome relationship!)

Mmm, your steak sounds divine! There's nothing I love more than a good steak, and having it grilled on the BBQ just takes it up another heavenly notch. The carb monster visited my house for an extended stay as well. Like you, I tried the low-fat, low calorie WOE and it didn't work for me at all. Coming back to Atkins just feels right. I hope I see the same success you've been achieving, congrats on your results so far!!

Hi Carol! (May I call you Carol?) We have similar journeys and goals, which is why I wanted to connect with you here on FS. Thanks for being my new Buddy! I understand that each person's body is unique, and will react differently to various diets and exercise. My body has always had a pretty slow metabolism, even as a teenager. My love for grains (mmm... oatmeal) is dangerous, as it just sticks to me. Nutrisystem, WeightWatchers, Low-Cal/Low-Fat, Vegetarian... all FULL of carbs. Atkins is the only program my body responds to. Oatmeal and boxed cereals are just going to have to be a thing of the past. I can enjoy a big fat ribeye instead. :) Wishing you luck, new friend! We can do this!

Yes, please call me Carol! Is your name Holly? If so, may I also call you by your first name? Thanks so much for the friend request, I too was struck by the similarity of our stories and goals. In reading your reply to me, I discovered we have even more in common with our slow metabolisms, love for grains (especially oatmeal, I LOVE steel-cut oatmeal!) and long list of other diet plans we've tried (I'm a lifetime WW member, lol). Atkins has been the only WOE that has ever consistently, dependably worked for me and it just feels "right" to be eating this way again. I'd love to share this journey with you! It's great to have someone share your triumphs, support you when you're down, and give you a good kick in the pants when you need it. ;) Wishing you luck too and yes, we can do this!!

Yup, Holly is my name! I am still grieving about my oatmeal. That and the delicious squash souffle that I used to buy from the freezer aisle. It is all natural, organic and healthy.... but has 35 carbs. EEK! I loved those so much that I have a freezer still full of them. I will resist the temptation. Not sure what to do with them now though :)

OK Holly, it's great to "meet" you! Mmm, that squash souffle sounds incredible, but WOW, way too many carbs for sure! Maybe one day, when you've found your ACE, you can indulge once in a while without harm. I can't imagine never having oatmeal again, I'm hoping that when I reach that rung on the carb ladder, oats will be something I can tolerate. Maybe not all the time, but occasionally. One can hope ... :D

I heard a good podcast the other day and the person being interviewed was saying that we need to think of these items that we are not eating as choices, rather than things we are depriving ourselves of. I liked that. When someone passes the bread I simply say to myself that I choose not to eat that right now because I want a better life for myself.
