ctlss's Journal, 31 March 2013

It has been a wonderful Easter Sunday. We went to church this morning and celebrated Christ's resurrection with our church family. The music was awesome, as usual. The message left me feeling a bit empty. I was really hoping that we would share communion, as we have every other Easter since joining ROC, but we didn't. The message itself was okay, but I was hoping that it being Easter, the sermon would have focused on the events of that wondrous day. I came away feeling rather disappointed in the actual message. The interim pastor tends to get stuck and go over the same thing repeatedly, and it becomes monotonous. I am hoping that as time goes on he will realize that we are all fairly intelligent and that won't be necessary. He has taught children for a long time, and that is how he preaches at us. He told us that he knew he had already been covered Colossians 3:1-4 before, several times in fact, but that he will be going over it more for another 3 to 4 weeks. He really left the most important part of what Easter really means out of his sermon...that the gift that God gave us when His Son died, was the gift of eternal life and that all we need to do is accept it! We don't need to do good deeds or jump through hoops, but simply accept Christ as the Son of God. This makes us want to be better and stop living the life we were living before. Will we be perfect, no, but when we slip up and sin again, we are forgiven, because when Jesus died on the cross He paid for all! He did tell us that when Jesus died on the cross, so did our old self. That should have been the main message on this most Holy of days, and it was there, but it wasn't primary. His style of preaching is so different from that of Pastor Mark, and I am sure that is part of the problem, but the other part is that he just doesn't move me. I don't feel connected to God when I listen to him, and that is something that is VERY important to me. I need to feel that the message is God speaking through the messenger, and that's just not there. Even when I had disagreements with Mark, I still felt God speaking in his sermons.

After we left church, we went to mom's and had brunch with her. I made an omelet and bacon for all of us and mom had toast as well. It was a lovely time, and we were all stuffed by the time we were done. We then came home and took a nice little nap! lol

Yesterday was a bit overcast and cool, so we stayed in until time to go to mom's. On the way there we ran by Kroger and got the stuff for Easter service today, dropped it off at church, picked up the coffee pots and trays. Then ran by Costco and picked up coffee, coconut oil, cream, and cream cheese. Then over to mom's for a rousing game of Rummy. I won!! Then a game of Yahtzee, which Dan won. After we got home, I filled 72 plastic Easter eggs with candy for the kiddos at church today. I got all my supplies together for the coffee service area, loaded my bag, and got to bed around 1:30. All in all a very full day!

This evening we are making taco stuffed peppers for dinner and watching the Fox Sunday cartoon line up. We may have to play a hot game of Rummy here shortly.

Anyway, that's all the news that's fit to print from my corner...hope you all had a blessed and wonderful Easter!!

Sounds like a wonderful Easter, in spite of the message in your sermon, Stef. An older lady told me once when I was bothered by a homily that you don't go to church for the homily, you go for communion. I'm not sure I agree completely, and I do know how you felt. Hope the messages get better. happy April.

Stef - seems to have missed your journal yesterday. Hope things work out with your new Pastor.
