fatoldlady's Journal, 29 March 2013

Yesterday I took Whitey to the vet for his first glucosamine injection. The vet clinic I go to has this one vet that specializes in joint problems and he recommended these injections to stop and maybe even reverse the arthritis in his knees. The arthritis is from his TPLO surgery and he said its to be expected after such invasive surgery...funny the surgeon who did the job didn't tell me that. The problem I had with it is that Whitey needs to have these injections twice a week for a month and I freak out over needles. Luckily I have a friend who use to give his dogs their vaccination shots and is much more comfortable with needles. He came along and learned how to do the injections. The vet at one point had to tell me that dogs pick up on our emotions and I was making the dog nervous because I was so nervous. Something I have to work on.

Its a bit expensive, about $300, for the first month but after that he only needs a shot every second month. This should help him stay mobile and pain free.

So I was trying to figure out what I could do for my friend that is helping me out and since he is a very busy single guy I thought the best thing is to cook for him. He loves home cooked foods but ends up eating in restuarants most of the time. Today I'm geting together with my cooking buddy and we are going to make up a bunch of phyrizky for hime. They freeze well and he has a microwave to heat them up.

So every weekend for the next month I'm going to cook up a big batch of something and make sure he has something good to eat for the week.

What a wonderful idea cooking up some delicious food for your friend to eat. It's a win, win situation. Make sure he has a microwave. LOL! It's good Whitey has you to take care of him. You are a great mommy. Hugs!

Using the weekend to make wholesome, delicious foods is a great idea. I do it often for my elderly parents. It is definitely a win-win. My family gets a great meal and they get "ready to eat" meals that they would never make for just the two of them.

I hope that the glucosamine injection would help Whitey. My chow chow Axel has the same problem although he is only 3,5 years old. He has arthritis and dysplasia of elbows. We tried everything - medicament, injections, operation, physiotherapy and so on. I understood that we can stop arthritis we can just ease the pain. I wish you every success in your cure!
