I think I will never be able to get out of induction phase because my metabolism is so low. Every time I go over 20 carbs, I quit losing weight. At least when I stay in induction, I don't keep gaining weight. I guess that's my life.

Hi Vandenbergers - I am thinking the same thing you said - I may never be able to go above 20 because my body seems to imediately start gaining weight when I do. I remember doing Atkins back in 1989, in fact - I was living in NY at the time and I went to see the Dr. Atkins himself. He put me on the lowest possible level of carbs at that time - I think he told me I could have lettuce and that was it!! Now we are all doing it a bit differently - figuring Net Carbs instead of total carbs. With a few exceptions I have been able to stay under 25 Net carbs - but I am concluding that is just too much for me. I wonder - once I lose most of my weight, will my metabolism change at all and allow me to eat 25 carbs a day? I too have found myself thinking about the sad truth that it may b e like this for the rest of my life. But after a lifetime of sugar addiction and over eating, I am beginning to understand that those foods are poison for me. I'm not totally resigned to low to no carbs for the rest of my life, but I think it might come to that. My plan now: work on reducing my overall calorie count - try to keep it between 1200 - 1400 -( oh I remember the days when I did Atkins before and there was no need to pay attention to calories at all) and I'm going to try to keep my TOTAL carbs, not just net carbs, under 20 - and see what happens. I don't understand how this FS website works - I'd like to be able to find you again and see how things are going. Maybe we can help each other. - Robin

Hi Vandenbergers and Robin, I too fell like I will never get out of induction. I was staying under 1200 Cl a day - trying to da Atkins and count calories well that has not worked for me so today I increased my cloric intake and kept my carbs under 20 a day but I made tuna salad with real mayonnaise and the fat gram on my diet calendar are higher than my protein....That is hard for me to accept but I hope this works because if I look at bread or pasta I gain weight. i hope Atkins works for me....Take care and happy carb counting.
