So after two days of record breaking warm weather, had the doors open all day blowing the stink out the place, we now have a winter storm warning. Over a foot of snow expected along with high winds and just to make it really interesting for anyone who has to drive in it, there was some freezing rain before it turned to snow. Today is going to be an inside day, there is always lots of housework that needs doing and its a good day to cook up some big batch of good food to freeze. If its not to windy might take the dogs out to the back field to run around, they so love playing in fresh snow.

Yesterday I made this smoked turkey leg stew and it turned out fantastic. The mixture of the sweetness from the onions and carrots with the saltiness of the smoked turkey and some herbs was perfect. The smoked turkey was really moist...it doesn't seems to dry out like roasted turkey can do. One serving is a reasonable in calories as well, under 300. I felt full after one serving but the problem is that I could have eaten it all, about four servings, just because it tasted so good. Should I not cook things that taste so good? Maybe go for something that taste good enough to eat but not good enough to make me pig out? Will I ever be able to say I'm full and walk away without the little voice nagging at me to eat more? I feel like an addict but I can't completely quit my addiction, tried that once and it didn't turn out well. I did end up having another half serving and stop there but I really didn't need it....just wanted it.

Oh sure hope you can get out and enjoy watching your furbabies have some fun...I hear ya on eating things that are soo tasty...its hard to stop at just one serving..but you say to your self..I have 4 servings and will enjoy them one at a time...I try to save mine til I have enough cals to enjoy it...Like yesterday..I had my biscuit..I wanted more but stopped my self..and now I have another one for later...Hope you don't get as much snow as predicted...Have a great day...:O)

I can't cook a ton of yummy stuff for myself. When I do, I quickly portion it all out and throw it in the freezer. Thanks for reminding me, I need to cook something today, I have no idea how to cook turky stew, sounds warm and filling. I am totally an addict. I know just what you are talking about. Today I had my egg whites, but put slices of parmesan cheese on it. It tasted so good I wanted more cheese. Just the whole block LOL. OOOPS. Too bad the cold is back. HOpefully we will have an early spring . Have fun with the doggies, I wish I had some snow Tammy dog could to out in, she use to love it!

No walks today, this snow storm turned into a blizzard and the temperature is still dropping. This stew was really easy, fried up some onions in butter, added some carrots and celery, sauted a bit with some fresh sage, roasemary and thyme. Added my home made chicken stock (Hutterite chickens make the best broth). I found the smoked turkey leg in this butcher shop I go to. Cut all of the meat off the bone and added it the stew at the end after the veggies were cooked as the smoking process cooked the turkey. Thicken with a bit of cornstarch and its done.

When its something really yummy ((which is pretty much every food) and if i am at home I start with only 1/2 a serving then take a break to assess if still hungry. I know it's still there in the kitchen so I have a glass of tea or water and do a chore or read FS journals. If 1/2 hour later and still hungry I have the other 1/2 serving. Sometimes a hot shower helps. Keep cooking - you are the best choice of knowing exactly what's going into the dish. You've got me craving turkey.. yum!
