I'm a Lutheran (reformed Roman Catholic) and while being "ashed" last night at the worship service as a sign of pentience and self-examination it occurred to me that I have been attempting to eat healthy in a distorted way. I'm been focused on losing my belly and love-handles (my exterior) versus cleansing my bodies internal system i.e. blood vessels and organs. I take medication for cholestrol, high blood pressure, and thyroid. I also have a higher than normal glucose reading. My sense of progress or non-progress has been reflected on my bathroom scale. The scale really doesn't tell the whole story ... at least not the "interior story" of what's going on with me. I could be a skinnier unhealthy person which doesn't make a lot of sense. I believe my journey .... and perhaps it's true for all of us, is to be a healthier person period. It wasn't until last night that it stuck me that physical health is not unlike spiritual health .... it needs to start from the inside .... out.

So very true for all of us, Glen! Focusing on the weight loss alone is not a complete plan. In addition to the physical health issues that need to be addressed, we can't forget the emotional issues as well - how our eating is tied up in our psyche. So many layers of discipline, reflection and reform to contend with! No wonder this stuff isn't easy.

Amen Glen! This journey has been different for me in that I started it to avoid and further health complications. Last May I had some rather unpleasant blood test results that really opened my eyes to the fact that my health is the most important thing I have and without it the rest doesn't matter. I started this journey to lower my cholesterol and mostly my glucose levels, as the last thing a heart problem needs is diabetes along for the ride. The older I've gotten the more I realize that what my physical body looks like on the outside matters a whole lot less than what is going on, on the inside. Besides at 54 I deserve to enjoy every wrinkle and stretch mark. It is what it is, and FINALLY I get it!!! Nice reflection :)

I agree too! I like to say I'm "The fun Grandma in Training!" I want to be healthy and energetic for my grandkids, when and if they ever come on to the scene! I want to be able to do fun things with them, and not be sick or lethargic. Whatever I can do now to help insure that I have quality time with my grandkids.....I'm doing it!!! I need constant reminders that I've gotten out of balance, but I'm still learning and perfecting! :)

What a beat insight Glen! Yes. Healthy eating for a healthy body. I am not on meds but it is what I want as well. For this flabby body God gave me to hold out for many years to come and work well! Have a good day my friend!
