newmooney's Journal, 19 January 2013

Good Saturday Morning FS Buddies,
It is another cold day on "Fantasy Island" -12 and chance of flurries.
Up early to go grocery shopping.
I got lots of fruit and veggies, maybe even more than I can eat before they go bad. I still need to do some weekend housework.
I am tired and look forward to sleeping in tomorrow and being lazy.
I will go and have some coffee now and see if it will revive me.
Hope it is sunny in your worlds:)

Hint - I find if I cut up the fruits and veggies and put them out with dips the rest of the household will help clean them up in record time.

Also throw them in smoothies, works good for both fruit and veggies if they get a little soft or limp but are not yet spoiled. I like to make my fruit drinks with a Greek yogurt base and my vegetable drinks with a tomato and raw egg yoke base. Add chia or flax to load up on omega 3. For a low-cal nutritious veggie dip try hummus, comes in lots of good flavors.

thanks for the suggestions seafood_eater I love greek yogurt so will try the smoothies with that, and I got a couple of kinds of hummus today to use as a veggie dip- I'm gonna try an avocado hummus for a change looks tasty.

Hey girl..we had a full day of sunshine..was soo nice..a bit chilly but still the sun is sooo much better than the cloudy skies..You could always cut them up and freeze them..in portion sizes and then thaw them out when needed..hope that helps..:O)

Another tip: baby spinach here comes in those large plastic bins that seal nicely so when I buy kale or mustard greens I put them in those recycled bins and they stay crisp until eaten. I also buy veggies that have a very long shelf life such as cabbage, broccoli, and carrots. They stay crunchy with no special container and make perfect snacks. The key clearly is to buy what tastes good to you and try to eat a wide variety for a balance of nutrients.

I make up a big salad with lettuce and harder veggies that will keep for a few days, no tomatos or anything that will go soft and mushy, and keep it in the fridge. I tend to eat more salads when its all chopped up and I just have to add some protien and dressing.
