rksoup's Journal, 16 October 2012

Sat down tonight to crunch today's numbers and was shocked to see only 715 calories/8.69 NC. How can that be? I ate really good, tasty food. I feel satisfied. I did miss breakfast but I thought I made up for it with extra snacks, a delish lunch (mexican cheese omlette) and dinner (chicken and green beans).
Today's numbers:
Cals: 715
Sodium: 2211 (canned green beans & pickle)
Fat: 53.05
Net Carbs: 8.69

Percentages:
Carb 8%
Fat 67%
Protein 25%

I haven't weighed yet, but I would suspect skipping breakfast (something I don't usually do anymore) will have slowed my metabolism for today. Even though every number is rediculously low, I probably didn't loose any.

I did find that about 1 hour after lunch I felt hungry/grumbly/looking for a cheat. I knew I couldn't be actually hungry due to the size of my omlette less than an hour before. So finally figured out I was craving caffine or diet coke, as we ran out and I had only had one can in 5 hours. Weird how my caffine addiction manifested itself as food cravings. Luckily I didn't give in and went to the store to buy more LC/HF foods (and more diet coke). I also didn't have my (now) usual coffee in the morning. Duh, but interesting.

I do that sometimes, too. My net carbs are low, yet I am full and satisfied :) Hard to believe since I was always a binge eater. I'm sure if anyone saw me I looked like some wild person who hadn't eaten for weeks.. lol. The only caffeine I get is from my morning coffee and everyone can tell if I haven't had it yet lol. Good for you for not caving in to those cravings!

First - good job not caving to the cravings! Second - did you really only eat 1 1/2 ounces of chicken for dinner? That's, what, a drumstick? You probably would have been better off eating 1/2 cup green beans (though I hesitate to mention less of a vegetable to you since you don't like them all that much) more chicken (at least a thigh with the drumstick) and maybe some cheese . You are doing a great job. I don't want to sound like a lecturerer :-) You might want to try to add more protein so that you don't end up burning muscle instead of fat. I'd also recommend looking into the Fat Bombs that can be found on the internet. They are easy to make and very good. I wish they had a better name so others wouldn't freak out about them. Made of Coconut Oil, butter, all natural peanut butter (or Almond butter), cocoa powder, sweeteners & a choice of a couple of add-ins if you like (I use sunflower seeds in mine). They are a great little snack and 1 little "bomb" would add about 150 calories, healthy fats, some protein and only a little carbs.

Thanks for the idea. I've heard you mention them before. I'll have to look up the recipe. I truely didn't intent to go so low. These bombs might help at the end of the day to balance my numbers and make me feel like I've got a decadent treat. I did find I was hungry around bed time, so more protein at dinner would have helped that. I didn't eat because late night snacking has always been my problem. No big deal to go to bed hungry once in a while.
