KayseaLove's Journal, 24 May 2018

I have been indulging in the carbs since my daughter was in the hospital. Comfort food I suppose. Back on track today. Daughter is out of the hospital and doing great. I love logging in on this site seeing everyone posting their keto meals and doing good staying on track - it really helps me. I am shocked I didn't gain weight during my food binge week. I am going to contribute it to smaller portions of the wrong foods???

Coworkers brought in giant delicious looking homemade gourmet cupcakes of different varieties. They were trying to get me to cave and eat one. I told them I would eat a cupcake when my coworker smokes a cigarette. Then the debate started which was worse for you... Smoking or sugar. What do you think?

I am so sorry to hear about your daughter!! I was wondering what was going on, but I didnt want to intrude. I hope everything is ok now!! Good to hear that you didnt gain any during the binge. Sending you my love and prayers!! Honestly, I feel like they are both bad, but for me, sugar has to be a little worse. You can choose not to smoke, leave a place where someone is smoking. With sugar, it is hidden in everything. Even savory stuff has sugar in it. Its hard to get away from completely. I love bananas and haven't had one in months because its so high in sugar!

I love and miss bananas too @ Klynn82 ~ and you're right @ Miraculum -- all addictions suck.

best answer ever (and this coming from a gal who still likes her cupcakes!)

Sugar, simply because once you quit smoking you don't have to smoke ever again or even be around smoking if you don't want. Also, the cigarette industry isn't putting nicotine/tobacco in our food or drinks that will make us long to smoke again until we crack. The advertising industry isn't filling the internet and television with smoking ads(any longer). There aren't stores devoted to smoking with the aroma of some of that wonderful pipe tobacco wafting through the doors on every corner. Or people being you to smoke with them and telling you "come on, smoking just a little bit won't hurt."

You probably worked off all the comfort carbs via stress. As for the smoking/sugar debate, my mom died of lung cancer, so I'll say smoking. However, I have acute inflammation that reducing sugar fixes, so... for me it's sugar that's the big culprit. However, no one should be trying to force their food on you! It sounds like they feel guilty for eating so they want everyone to be guilty with them.

Sugar, refined grains and vegetable oils are the foundation for most chronic disease. Hopefully it will get more widly known, so that your coworkers get to understand that you were ahead of time by saying no to that cupcake in 2018.

I am a former smoker, the sugar is still a problem. The problem is that people use sugar to express love, never cigarettes!

both are equally bad for us and both are very addicting. 👍Great job on saying no👍

My husband is a recovered alcoholic and heavy smoker. He kicked both cold-turkey, without any medical or group support, decades ago. His personal discipline in many things is legendary, but sugar is now his nemesis. A bariatrician told him that an addictive personality will always have a weakness, and that many drinkers and smokers turn to sweets. (Don't we all know smokers who complain of gaining weight?) He says that his the struggle with sugar is worse than either of his previous addictions.

I’ve never been a smoker; I normally have to crave sweets I’m not that much of a sweet eater. My husband different story; He smoked alot when he got out of military, and he quit smoking awhile back estimate approx 8 yrs ago, but I have to say he does eat more sweet snacks then he did when he was smoking. My husband loves his sweets , oreo cookies, chocolate cupcakes with no icing, reese cups, hershey kisses, Homemade old fashion fudge, he eats it daily, but he handles his weight and Thank God hes been blessed with Good health no sugar issues.

A friend, years ago, was told to eat oatmeal for her cholesterol issues. She discovered that eating a serving of oatmeal STOPPED her sugar addiction. I can now say that it had done the same for me!! But! If I stop eating it for a few days, that evil sweet tooth starts gnawing at me!

Hello Kaysealove’s! On Keto are we allowed Watermellon? Kroger has big ones on sale this weekend for $1.99
26 May 18 by member: KayLee_TC
Watermelon is high in sugar. Strawberries and raspberries are low.
26 May 18 by member: Gingerk65
There's a 2 gram sugar difference between a cup of strawberries and a cup of watermelon. They have the same number of carbs but the cup of strawberries has a little more fiber.

Well i pouted apl day i been wanting that juicy watermellon 🍉 🙄 But because of carbs and sugar I passed it up! I decided stay in pool all day away from those watermellons. 👍
