This thanksgiving is going to be different for us bc Im not cooking a turkey or anything at all for that matter. DH is not American and actually hates turkey. My mom works the day of and the day after (she's a retail manager). I have to work Friday and Saturday after. And for the 30 minutes we would all sit down together, I just feel like its not worth 2 days of me cooking. And Im always left cleaning up afterwards. And since DH doesn't like turkey or dressing, Im always left with way too much leftovers. SO I decided to buy our Thanksgiving meal this year! Im getting Rudy's (its a bar b que place). Im getting brisket, smoked turkey for me and the kid and sausage. Add in some sides and paper plates and viola! Thanksgiving dinner.. This way I can enjoy my two days off and not be a slave to the kitchen. My boys are full grown and honestly they were pretty excited when I said Rudy's, so what the heck. Im taking back my two days off ! If my kids were little I would never dream of not cooking but my oldest isn't even coming up this year and my youngest is extremely easy going and doesn't seem to mind the change in tradition. I plan to use my extra time to go to the movies, wrap presents and binge watch my show.. I hope every one has a wonderful day today! Cheers.

Same, husband wasn't born here... he isn't into all the hype over holidays. Just another day. Would rather be workign and earning more money...

Agree with you as well...DH and I seldom do much as it is just the two of us. In the past when the girls and families lived closer we celebrated with aunts, uncles cousins, etc. This year we are going to be traveling so no feasting plans. Enjoy your time off.

I used to make the biggest deal about TG and then I started to notice no one really was that into it like I was and thats maybe bc I grew up with a huge family celebration at my grandma's but she's been gone for years no. No sense in trying to recreate it. Id much rather get a work out in..

Sounds like an excellent plan to me! I am cooking all the traditional stuff and carrying it in to my MIL's house. There will be lots of family there. I have my homemade noodles rolled out and drying on the kitchen table now.

My sister insists on a turkey dinner so this year I bought one premade from a local grocery. It comes with all the same sides but I don't have to cook anything. That way I can rent some movies and just relax. My kids don't care either what we eat.

Some years are great for a feast with all the fixin's, but other times it's best to play it down, have a nice meal and relax. We're celebrating on Saturday, as my daughter will be with her inlaws-to-be on Thursday. Somehow that makes the meal less pressured to be a full blown Thanksgiving. Many of us are watching weight, so I'm hoping we can cool it on the fuss and pies.

Sounds like a great plan! I'm wavering between going to a restaurant for a meal, or spending the day pressure-canning a 28 lb turkey. Home canned turkey is a blessing for the next 2 years of quick, easy meals. Restaurant dinner is the joy of someone else cooking for a traditional holiday. Tough choice!

mskestrela, I remember canning with my mom growing up. We always did lots of applesauce and pickled vegetables, green beans and jams..good times for sure.. If I were you I would make the turkey...

Sounds like a great plan. As long as you and your family are happy and as many as possible together, that's all that really matters. Enjoy your two days.
