Oatmeal experiment day 7 or 8–noticing i have more energy earlier in the day which im assuming is due to higher carbs. Also having regular healthy bathroom movements (TMI😂) which i have struggled with since post surgical pain meds that i have been off of since last august but the reminder with re to bathroom remained. So not all bad. I am sad my protein intake is suffering. New NSV: able to squat like a bush person all the way down on my haunches and get up without using arms!!!!! Not fluidly but i will get there. I couldnt even get myself up off the ground a little over a year ago!!!!!!!!

Good for being so persistent in your oatmeal experiment! I don't like it enough to eat it so much. But I was happy to discover I was able to eat it without sugar if I sliced a banana over it and added some chopped nuts. I cook the oatmeal with milk instead of water just for more protein. If I eat it for a late lunch I'm full for the rest of the day.

LOL...I love that at a certain point in our lives we have to include "and get back up" because that's part of the challenge. 😁. I love oatmeal and berries. Glad it's bringing improvements.

Fritzy my doc already called in the statin scrip. I dont want to take it. She is saying my levels are dangerous. So im in a pondering state of mind currently. I do love oatmeal tho.

Thanks Morticia!!! I am absolutely seeing strength coming back after its very long and unwelcome vacation😂

Aww thanks RPL. I want to be like you and Diana and some others on here. It’s been my goal to be able to get myself up from the ground without pushing off of something. Check off. Then to get up without using my arms to push off the ground. Check number two. And now to be able to squat down like a child and get up easily. That’s still work in progress but is on my goal list.

Kimmpossible-that is definitely the plan my friend!

Wisco-thank you honey. Getting back up always beats the alternative.

Storms lol me too. Never had a problem in my life till these 3 surgeries in 12 months and 3 different rounds of narcotics for pain which, while short lived, left me with those bathroom memories😂. It has become a sigh of relief when i have a healthy bathroom moment since then. Omg! Yes, i have turned into my mother, my grandmother and all those before sadly.

I would do what my doctor says, especially if she says your levels are dangerous. But I really trust my doctor and he never suggests I take a medication if I can help myself through diet/how I eat or by losing weight. I doubt oatmeal for a month is really going to change things

Im shooting for 3 months….

I’m curious is the oatmeal just to get more fiber to help reduce cholesterol? I don’t know much about your diet so maybe you already incorporate these, but id like to suggest legumes! (In addition to the oatmeal, nothing wrong with oatmeal). They are super high fiber, also good source of protein. They’ve become a big part of my diet because it’s a huge fiber add for the day and I’m also trying to keep cholesterol down.

Curious as to how the full squat goes with the THR...my ortho said that would be a no no, but then again that might just be me given the predecessor pelvic fracture follwed by a THR.

Ddrudd-yup to get more fiber. Ive been focused on protein and low fat low sugar but not really on fiber
13 Feb 24 by member: Yearofhealth2023
Annisworkingonit-i dunno. Haven’t asked my surgeon about it but have my 2 year follow up (and one year follow up for left hip that still needs THR but so far is holding up). I will ask. It’s in a few months. That deep deep squat is just my own body weight. Sumo squats are with 20-25 pound kettlebell so not seriously high weight tho seems heavy enough to me. I am on the 24” box for step ups now so thats on my list to ask also tho it’s really easy for me to do. Never had a pelvic fracture tho so that seems like more stability and care should be taken for you.

Try to think about it like you probably already think about protein - aim for a certain amount per meal. my daily goal is 50g, i don’t always hit it but also sometimes I go over. (And that’s why I love legumes, they work toward the fiber goal and also the protein goal 😄 ) Averaging about 50g got my cholesterol down significantly in about 3 months, to normal range. I hope this works for you! It’s a commitment but fwiw a high fiber diet is supposed to be good for you in many ways, not just heart health.

Ddrudd do you know how high your LDL and total cholesterol was prior?
