OH NO!!!! On the weekends we take our dogs to the elementary school with an enormous fully fenced playground and i go to one end and hubs with dogs to other (think the length of 2 football fields). I flag them. Hubs releases the big guy first and halfway thru field releases my little black guy (because he is a rocket and i dont want my big guy to always come in last place). I call it releasing the Kracken because hes a monster. His testosterone gets sky high on these runs. We do 3 of them. Well little dude has to be leashed up to go back up the field with hubs and hubs was running. He gets tripped in the leash and rolled over sideways twice (think car rolling over and over on its side). I saw that. Hubs stops and my little black dog has his dew claw nearly torn out. The leash got tangled just right. Bleeding. Limping. Holding paw up. Limping again today. Waiting on vet to get back to us. Apparently it can be fine but also can be dangerous as the dew claw connects to the bone and the danger of infection is real. I feel absolutely horrible. Hubs was beating himself up thinking it was his fault. It was just an accident. Wish i could take the pain away.

Something similar happened to our little huntress. Doc advised watchful waiting plus keep it clean and dry. It healed quickly. I was worried because it is one of her front dews and she uses it to grasp things (similar to a thumb). Well, she is gripping peanut butter jars and cottage cheese tubs as well as ever 😅 Yes, we feed scraps to our mongrels. It makes everyone happy 🙂

Jenjabba thank you. He’s our little naughty boy but hes such a sturdy little monster it is terrible to see him hurt in and holding his leg up.

OH NO 😯 I hope it heals soon, what can you do to help it heal?? wrap it up?

Lady, it is his front right claw and he uses it for bones and playing with toys also. We give them scraps also but they tend to be cantaloupe apples (no seeds) and carrots. I just feel awful for him. I went to the pet store and bought a first aid kit which stretch doggy bandage wrap in it so it is wrapped but it keeps leaking 🩸 blood a little. I let him out to go potty a bit ago and suddenly he started crying out there. Yep, he was holding his leg at a weird angle and just looking at me so sad. When hes upset, scared or worried his ears lay down behind him and flat. Like a gremlin from the movies. It’s how we can tell his moods. Usually they are straight up like the half husky he is. Im so glad she recovered. I sent pix to vet will have to see what she says. It’s just dangling there barely held into the bone.

Dazey, we’ve applied antibiotic wound ointment (prescription we had from earlier injury my big dog had this year) and applied gauze and stretch tape to it. Waiting on vet. Keeping it as clean as possible.

Thanks wifey. I know hes in pain because hes so quiet. Usually hes playing neighborhood watch at the top of the stairs and annoyingly notifying me whenever there is a (gasp) human or dog walking by the sidewalk. And by now hes tried to get myself or his big white brother to play with him but instead hes denning up underneath the chair quiet as a mouse. Ive decided no walks for at least 7 days for him which means he will be ready for the insane asylum by then (he needs the energy expenditure he gets every day because hes like 3 dogs in one. Part guard dog, part party animal, party comedian. So his plate is full and needs exercise to stay that way. Thanks for the hearts. I will pass them on to him darlin.

So sorry your sweet pooch got hurt. It is really hard to know they are in pain. I hope your husband is okay. I got tangled in a leash and fell once and that hurt. Also in a garden hose once, but that's another story!

Oh no! Poor baby! I hope he's ok! Please keep us posted 🩷 We had our Sydney for only a week and we took her for a ride. Joe had to break to miss a car that ran a stop sign and Sydney went forward and fell from rear seat to floor. She couldn't get out of car etc so we went straight to the vet. She tore her Achilles heel. Joe blamed himself too. Tell hubby (as I'm sure you did) that it was an accident. Sending hugs!💜💜

I’m so sorry to hear about your beautiful fur baby’s injury. I can tell how much you and your husband love your dogs. He’s in good hands with you two. Hope you all feel better soon.

Fritzy hubs was running he didnt fall. Little guy (Bandit) gets sidetracked by the smells i this field and probably veered just as the leash got lax and tangled up in his leg. Flipped him completely over. Twice. He’s a very fast runner and is usually ahead of hubs. How on earth did you get tangled in a garden hose? That takes some work😂

Diana, hes still beating himself up. We took little guy on a walk this am. He wasn’t limping i thought he was fine but in about 2 miles he was limping and bleeding and now hes swollen at the ankle and the second joint. Hubs carried him the 2 miles back home which normally he would squirm and want down. He didn’t. He’s also not resisting laying down with us all day or in his kennel or under chair. Normally hes a busybody running after me whenever i get up. Poor Sydney. Achilles tendon must have hurt terribly. How did they treat that and how long did it take to heal? Poor Joe. My hubs is still blaming himself.

Shanekwa thank you. Just trying to keep him from taking the bandages off and staying quiet. He’s being pretty good about it. He also got treats all day that i would never give him (think doggy baked cookies with frosting) because i am so sorry for him.

My heart goes out to you guys and your baby! It's like they are our children! 💜🙏 Sydneys vet wanted to try laser therapy on her as he said he thought she had a prior injury that was probably never treated. ( before we had her) He said if that didn't work he would do surgery. It did work. She responded very well to it. I think she had 12 sessions. Nt cheap but it was worth it

Diana we are the people that would rack up our credit cards if we had to (we also are folks that never run balances). And pay over time. Im so glad she healed. Sounds like she has been through enough and is very lucky to have you and joe💕
