Day 2 of a planned 5 days of ‘no solid food’ fasting
Yesterday I did not have any Protein Shakes. I just drank coffee and tea in heavy cream. I consumed about 900 calories worth.
However, as expected my excesses from the weekend still caught up with me.
I plan to 🏃🏾♂️ run this morning.
When I am trying to lose weight (last year I dropped 50 pounds in 5 months) I took in very little carbs (20-40 carbs a day 7 days a week) and ran 20-30 miles a week. I monitored my blood sugar levels daily and my body constantly created glucose from fat.
The only time I *need* to take in "dietary carbs" (meaning 'eating) is if I am trying to get enough glycogen in my system to dead lift 200lbs+ But, if I have fat on my body, my body *will* produce the glucose it needs for all other activities, including running through gluconeogenesis. That is one of the purposes of the liver.
Can I run as fast? No, but it depends on if I am trying to lose weight or not. I never need to 'eat' to have the energy to 'burn calories'.
😎 Life is Good! Have a great day everyone!

I do better fasted on exercise for sure. I get sluggish after food. Counting on the body to access the fat stores. And it does.

@liv001 - Yes :) Unfortunately I had to do some unexpected work this morning so I was not able to do a run 😭

I think a lot of the weight I've gained or not lost could be attributed to thinking that I need to eat ahead of expending energy. Let go of that pre-eating and the body taps into stored fats.

@erikahollister - Yeah, even all the protein shakes I drink are *not* because my body *needs the energy*, it is only because it fills my stomach and is mentally easier than 'water fasting' :) However, if I continue to gain weight, I will probably get motivated to water fast for a few days...
