I'm 31, live in Queens, NY. Been doing the South Beach Diet since about August 1st and it's going great. I've lost about 15 or 16 pounds on SB...I don't get on the scale a whole lot - only about once a week. Loss has been slow, but the diet's been really easy so I can't complain! I'm married and my husband's doing SB too, which is wonderful. I have 2 cats and a dog, and I'm a legal assistant in NYC. Perpetual dieter my entire life!

Quick Questions about Veggies
I had black beans and kidney beans during phase 1 and still lost just fine. I think the book/websites only said to skip pinto beans.

SBD: Write Everything Down?
I read an interview with the guy who created SBD (whose name is escaping me right now) and that question was asked. He said that no, he does not encourage keeping a food journal because counting and keeping a food journal is not "real life" practical, and that the thing about SBD is that it fits with real life. But I would think it's just a matter of personal preference - some people might like to spend the time journaling their food. Personally that's why I quit Weight Watchers...I got really sick of all the counting and journaling.

Being a Beginner
There are some great sites on the web that give you enough info to begin. I think southbeach-diet-plan.com was one of them. I also think I found a lot of good info on the Prevention website.
