Very happy with this result for the first few days! I haven't actually got to doing proper keto yet, as I'm still in my planned transition period. I'm still eating carbs in my evening meal, but only a small amount (though well over acceptable amount for keto). I'm not even counting, as I know it's too much, but the food is here, has to be eaten up, and so I'm just concentrating on keeping very low carb for the rest of the day, and not eating unnecessarily.
Strangely, the reflux that caused me so much problem last year but hasn't been an issue for ages, has returned very suddenly. I wonder if it will continue to be an issue? I hope not, but for now a more major issue is the mucous and coughing, and the best thing for that is a good, clean, healthy diet. The second-most important thing is weight loss, and it looks like I'm on the way with that. I do hope I can stick with it, despite the fact that my life is stressful beyond belief.
The other day I got a lot of my recorded weights for this whole year from my Wii Fit, and transferred them to Fat Secret. The thing that I noticed when I looked at the graph, was how my weight started a sudden climb at each of the most stressful times in this past year. The correlation between stress and weight gain was pretty spot-on! I managed to maintain my weight in the in-between phases (high stress), but each time I hit a full-on difficult period, my weight climbed. I know cortisol probably plays a part, but I also know that I eat poor quality food, and over-eat, when I am struggling mentally, so it's a triple-whammy for me, every time.
I'm aiming to keep up keto for 3-4 weeks at this stage and see how I go. I don't have very much mental energy to devote to juggling and changing eating plans, macros etc, and am really just flying by the seat of my pants (ie. falling back on what I have done before). I am unsure if my restricted budget and my motivation will be able to continue on long-term, but if, at the end of my trial period, I am going well, of course I will continue. Even if I don't, hopefully I can lose between 3 and 6kg, and will be better for it, anyway.

Well, I have just recorded a selection of weights for the year up to date, as I had entered very little all year, though my Wii Fit had recorded my weight, when I had got around to standing on it. Looking at the graph,it reflects my stress levels for the year, almost exactly. While stress is still high and my life is still in turmoil, I have at least got it together enough to ralise that the weight can't keep going up and up, just because I'm struggling to cope. It's time to get control back over at least the things I can control, so I will be putting a lot of effort into choosing healthy, ketogenic food choices. That's all I aim for right not. Hopefully I can manage it on a shoestring budget- it can be expensive in Malaysia to do keto, as cheese, butter, cream, bacon and other western foods are all really expensive. Previously when we've done keto we haven't had these budgetary constrainsts, so it will be somewhat experimental, seeing what will work for us and what won't.
I'm not in the position to be making long-term commitments right now, so I'm just committing to stick to keto for a few weeks, and if that works out, I'll keep at it. I'm interested to see what my blood sugar readings do- a few days ago, my blood sugar was 5.0 which is rather scary, and I am hoping to see an improvement in blood sugar and overall health by eating better.
