Starting Weight = 476 pounds
Week #15 Closing = 390 pounds

Numbers Update:
First negative week, gained 3 pounds
86 pounds banished
18.07% of Body Weight banished
BMI down 10.4 points to 54.0 points

Been feeling heavy all week. I think my body is just adjusting to the 18 pounds I lost over the past two weeks prior to this one. Additionally, the doctor put me on a steroid & a muscle relaxer for my neck; started giving me issues a few days after my wreck. It is very sensitive to touch on the sides & feels like it needs to be "popped," but I can't get it to pop; so the pressure keeps building. Going to the chiropractor in the morning; took forever to get an appointment.

Oh well, a little slippage on the climb never killed anyone. It is just a test of my fortitude & dedication to this climb. No matter the reason, having your first negative week at week 15 is not too bad. If you told me 15 weeks ago I would be setting here 86 pounds lighter, but coming off a negative week; I would have taken the deal hands down. So no need to sulk of throw a pity party here.

I do think I did not eat enough throughout the week; only averaged 1,391 calories per day Monday through Friday. Went slightly over on Saturday & Sunday, but no biggies. Me & my sons took my wife to the beach for Mother's Day yesterday. She loves riding over to the ocean for the day. Then we had dinner at the best pizza shop in Savannah; Vinnie Van Go Go's!!! It is pizza straight out of heaven. First pizza I have eaten in 15 weeks. I don't know who enjoyed it more, me, her or the boys? I'm lying; I think I did.

So as I say so often, the mountain is what the mountain is. Today is the dawning of a new day & a new week to assault the mountain side. The climb begins anew; with maybe a little more intelligent approach. I know I need to eat more & stay closer to my RDI versus in the 65% to 70% of RDI range. I know a better breakfast would be beneficial. So I have got to figure out what I can squeeze into that time frame.

The most amazing thing about gaining three pounds is my insight, which I feel is a gift bestowed upon me by this community. Your knowledge, experiences, & advice have allowed me to assess my climb & see the path to correcting it; versus ceasing all efforts & abandoning ship, like I would have done in the past.

I vow to dig my heels in deeper this week. I will find a way to increase my intake in a healthy manner; especially the breakfast calories. I will hit the cardio hard & put in my miles.

So here's to everyone having a successful week. Let's set our focus on the peak & keep putting that one foot in front of the other. For those of us that need a recovery week, let's go out & make that happen. For those of us out there still blazing the trail on new ground, keep on keeping on. For those on the peak, keep those lanterns lit, we can see them & rest assured we are on our way to the party on the peak. For those in the valley starting up this mountain, welcome. You certainly have come to the right place.

This is a mountain of agony. This is a mountain of hardship. This is mountain of possibility. This is a mountain of teaching. This is a mountain of freedom. This is a mountain of life. You will learn many things on this climb. You will get to know many new people on this mountain. But most of all, you will learn a lot about yourself on this mountain; & you will get to know yourself better on this mountain.

I almost feel sorry for the people who don't get to climb it. The most exhilarating rewards come from the most challenging tasks.

To the peak gang!!!

Think of it as a little rest in base camp while you collect yourself for the next section of the climb.

I like that perspective Izzy. It's all good. I've made a lot of progress, learned a lot about myself, & have dropped from a size 58 to being able to squeeze into a size 50 jean in 15 weeks. I haven't been in those jeans in at least 5 years. I don't even know why I kept them. It's like BB said about the old shirt last week. I find myself taking great pride in wearing old clothes that have not seen the light of day in years. If I could repeat the last 15 weeks, every 15 weeks; I'd make that deal all day long. I know it will not be that easy, but I'm in for the long climb. My mind has been made up. This is my exodus event. I am going up this mountain & I want my experience to be beneficial to all who seek to use it for their climb as well. The support here validates my sincerity. I hear your voices through every written word. I am blessed by the level of support that comes my way. I want us on the peak. I have co-workers commenting on my "change" a lot now. I'm pointing them all to the mountain; here, with us. I tell them about about the support. If they want to know what I'm eating, I give them the address, my user name, & tell them to look it up. I had a week that gained on me; my weight went up a little, but my momentum went exponential. That might of crushed Old Jon, but this ain't Old Jon anymore.

I am in awe of your progress as well as your dedication. This time around, I feel that same motivation and commitment that I hear in your posts. I didn't start thinking about it as climbing a mountain until I met you, but I sure love a good hike! In my false starts, I would have lost a few pounds then let it all slip away, but that is not going to happen this time. I am going to keep climbing with you!

There will be momentary slips on the climb. You just hold on and ride it out. You're doing phenomenal and are such an inspiration to so many along the path! BTW, there's a typo on your post for week 15 weight. You put in 490 instead of 390. *************** Reading about your double cheeseburger brings to mind my shocking discovery (to me, anyway) that you can cut 250-300 calories from a burger just by getting it without the bun. Since I'm doing low carb, I'm not eating bread, but I think I'd eat this way anyway. I've enjoyed burgers numerous times on my new eating plan, just without the bun. My hubby gets his wrapped in lettuce, and I just get mine sans bun and cut it up with a fork and knife. Not everything you love has to be off-limits or bring you over calories. Okay, hot bread and butter is one of my off-limits items, but you get the idea. ;-)

Thanks for the tip & for letting me take 100 pounds off with a quick edit DA!!! I have thought about eating a reverse double-burger, but have never tried it; use two patties with the fixings & one part of the bun between the patties. Cuts the bread calories & carbs in half. My big picture outlook is firm & all of your feedback only confirms I'm on the path I need to be on. I'm here to climb. I'm here to build a better me. A little loose soil isn't stopping me now! I've created a peak seeking monster. I'm practically part Yeti now!!!

Neck injuries are tough to deal with (had one), but don't let 3 lbs get you down, I can fluctuate this much in a few days, depends on salt intake fluid retention and phases of the moon apparently.... 86 lbs gone is a great reminder/accomplishment!! focus on that and where you want to be, everything else is an old thought parasite; you are in the process of freeing yourself from.

Sounds like you had a lovely beach trip and your wife appreciated it! The thing to remember is what goes up must go down! So you went up from a special meal...and it will drop back down. The key is getting right back on track the next meal - which i know will do. Rock On, Jon!

Jon we all learn as we go. You're learning what works or doesn't work for you and how to adjust to the bumps in the journey, doing a great job at it and also giving a lot of encouragement and support. Keep up the good work.
