OK, my wife, family, and I are back from 10 days on the beach. We left for vacation on 9/15, and I weighed 198.2. Since this is another extended interruption in my loss / maintenance routine involving higher calories, less exercise, the thought was given to allowing 7-10 pounds of short term weight gain since much of any change would be salt, and less exercise. 7 - 10 pounds of weight gain in 10 days is about right for my body. And I had much less exercise. I had some higher calorie meals. What I do not understand is that I LOST 5 pounds of weight. I am not sure what I did (right), but, somewhow, the weight came off. This morning (9/24), I weighed 193.2 pounds on an accurate, digital scale. Thing is, I really did not seriously "overdo" my meals except for my Friday 9/16 AM meal and perhaps my Friday 9/23 breakfast meal. We brought white cheddar popcorn, some homemade caramel corn popcorn, and cookies to snack on. I ate more than my share. But generally, the meals were very well maintained. Some of this can be demonstrated in my amount of rest. I had previously had some degeneration of the L4, L5, S1 vertebrae. The pain was more than anyone should have to endure. Plus, I re-injured my right knee when I accidentally did 2 total squats that compressed to the extent that the right heel bone touched my butt. I could never, in my best athletic condition, do a squat that tight. Unfortunately, I did one in the sand at the beach when I slipped and then another when a larger wave started back to the Gulf and I slipped again. That one hurt. All that to say that I spent 2 of my vacation days in bed trying to nurse both the back and the knee compression. When I weighed this morning for the 1st time since 9/15, I was totally shocked at the weight loss. So, one can lose weight on vacation. Just hope that everyone can do that too, but do not go through the pain of an accidental squat. Everyone, keep eating right, keep exercising, and keep focusing. We can all do it.
