Very rough year not watching when I eat not exercising properly and the results is that I'm back up to 290 lb time to pay attention to what I eat and to the exercise I do.
290.0 lb Lost so far: 3.0 lb.    Still to go: 50.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
gaining 1.6 lb a week

First step is acknowledging the issue and you've done that. Now is the easy part eating to live, instead of living to eat! Start the steps now and make 2022 the year you're back where you want to be! Good luck and thank you for your service to the country!

you got it. find your groove and stay with it. losing weight is easy if you are consistent day to day. good luck.
