Got a new plan. I'm trying to quit smoking, while I am trying to lose weight.

Yeah, I know, I should've quit a long time ago. Better yet, I shouldn't have started. Thirty-plus years of a bad habit makes it all that much harder.

So what I am doing is combining the two. When I want a smoke, I must walk at least 1 mile. So far, I've been sticking to the plan, and have racked up three miles today alone. Plus, my nicotine intake is cut by about 1/3.

I figure, if I want a smoke, I need to *really* want it enough to do some exercise.

Good plan!!! Vaping helped me kick the habit and has helped me not start again for almost 2 years

That's an awesome plan!!! Very smart. I hope to one day quit nicotine like you are doing... Another vaper here as well... Smoked for 20 years until 2014. At least I feel better than I did, and I don't smell like smoke anymore.

Wow, this is certainly a different method, but a pretty good idea.... I wish you well on kicking the smoking habit, and look forward to hearing more about your milestones and achievements. Best of Luck!

Love your idea, want a cigarette, walk... been on nicoderm for almost 2 months. I am on the last step just a week to go then I'm on my own, may have to try your idea. It seems so much harder trying to keep your weight down while quitting smoking.

I started smoking as a teen, thought it made me look cool. I didn't have any trouble quitting for good over twenty years ago, it never made me feel good, cost way too much, and stunk.

Good job!! I quit smoking and it also led me to lose weight. I decided I wasn’t going to eat my nicotine cravings. I started running, walking, quit all alcohol (high in calories) and voila! I’m a newer, healthier me.

My sis-in-law went to a hypnotist so she could quit smoking.. That's exactly what he told her to do. Every time she wanted a cigarette she had to walk. She quit smoking and lost weight...

It's a start Dw - pretty soon you'll just get sick and tired of having to trek all that way for cigs and say "I really don't want it that bad!" and just quit! Bet you can do it!!!

Thanks for all the encouragement. It was my first real journal entry, and something I need to get more regular at. I really appreciate you all taking the time out of your day to give me positive thoughts!

That sounds really effective! When I was struggling to stay healthy in grad school, I struck a deal with myself: I could have all the fast food I wanted, so long as I was willing to walk the mile or more to the franchise of my choice. Five years later, pan-fried kale & Tofurky remains my 'lazy' dinner of choice. 😁

LOL that’s one way to do it! And think of all the fresh air you get in the meantime! LOL 🙋🏻

Can be hard to go smoke-free, but it can be done. Good luck! I have been tobacco free two years, due to vaping. Noticed a huge increase in wellness over the months after quitting.

You will never quit smoking unless you go cold turkey. Every time you want a cigarette, go for a walk and suck on an Altoid. It works, I used that method 24 years ago and still haven’t smoked. I smoked for 15 years and was up to 3 packs a day sometimes.

I've never smoked---anything. Keep trying hard, and don't be too proud to get help from a doctor. My dad tried quitting about 20 years ago and couldn't do it---he said he hadn't committed his mind to stopping smoking. He tried again two or three years later and this time he was completely successful! He finally decided to do it for himself and no one else, and he's been 100% non-smoking ever since. I'm super proud of him for accomplishing it even to this very day! Do it for yourself!!
