Hermiones Mom's Journal, 24 June 2016

I ate a cupcake tonight, and I'm proud of myself. I know that sounds weird, but here's the thing: I am learning to go out for an evening and not eat crazy. I had salad, steamed shrimp, and about 1/2 cup of rice. I drank club soda. Then later, I had a small chocolate cupcake. It was very yummy. I'm sure I will regret it, but my point is: Eating normally does not mean never ever again eating a sweet treat, but rather, eating in moderation, so you can indulge occasionally. I am so proud of myself for eating conservatively at dinner and choosing a small cupcake for dessert. I know there are folks who can do better, who can stay on plan every meal every day all week. But I want to find my way to a way of eating that will last me for the rest of my life, and life includes evenings out. So I felt like I did a good job tonight. Excuse me for being self-congratulatory.

It is so true - learning moderation is the ultimate goal! No need to apologize for being "self-congratulatory."

Steamed shrimp sounds yummy. CICO / Calories in Calories out works for me every time good luck.

Good for you! That is not a behavior I will strive for, but I am happy for your victory ☺

To indulge a little then stop is a major test in self control, for me it is easier to simply abstain as I quickly become a sailboat in a hurricane and there is no stopping. Good for you!

Great job in controlling your sweet tooth. Eating out in a restaurant where you can walk away, must be the trick to not overindulging. We all have to do what will work for us.

Eating in moderation is a goal I hope to achieve. I congratulate you HM and as the others have already said don't ever apologize for being "self-congratulatory".

Awesome - I have a treat every now and then and also marvel that I can have half, a bite, or a small serving.

I think I am reaping the advantage of losing this weight very very slowly. I've been working at this on and off since I joined in 2010, and it wasn't until this past two years that I've really settled into a pattern that feels permanent. I've never expected to lose weight quickly, so I may complain a bit, especially at times like now when I'm floundering a little and stuck around 159. But I had the same problem when I went from 170 to 169 -- so I think that I another couple of weeks, I'll fall off this plateau, and start moving through the 150s, and then of course I'll do it all over again at 149. Thanks for all the encouragement.
