OOPS! My bad. Here I have been telling everyone that I am making brisket today when in fact I mean tri tip. VERY different animals. Brisket is MUCH higher in fat, etc. So to be clear, I smoked a tri tip roast for about 3.5 hours. Juicy, tender, and delicious!

Some of us would NOT know the difference unless told...thanks for info...that probably helps explain why I had a tough weekend last weekend...I went to a fundraiser BBQ and ordered the Beef Brisket instead of BBQ (even tho I did NOT have any bread and just ate HALF of the beans)...Thanks for educating me, even if no one else needed it....Have a great weekend Adam. :)

How did you prepare it? My husband has a new smoker and I have a tri trip roast that is next in line to be cooked.

Hey Izzy, I marinate the tri-tip over night in Demetri's bloody mary mix. It is sooooooo good. you can find it on Amazon. Then I cook over indirect heat on my charcoal grill (no dedicated smoker yet) for 3 - 4 hours. I place the charcoal on the right, a pan of water on the left... I set the meat on the grill over the pan of water - the creates a convection effect when the grill is closed. It's not the classic way of doing tri-tip, but it rocks!

Oh, I would have never thought to use bloody mary mix. I will have to give that a try.

I never though about using bloody mary mix! What a good idea! That would be good I'm sure with the lean pork shoulder roasts I smoke fairly often, they are inexpensive and just a bit of a fat cap. I need to get my smoker cleaned up and going and find some wood. I bought one last year for like $25.00 at an estate sale. I love it!

Yeah the bloody mary mix works really well. The Demetri's is full of excellent spices, etc., and makes and excellent marinade. If you guys try it let me know what you think :)
