jmb3450's Journal, 27 March 2015

I am perplexed and very frustrated with the scale, as much as I often encourage others to not worry about the short term swings and lack of progress it bugs me when it's me. Weighed in this morning at 214 lbs, 4 lbs up from yesterday. 1 piece of birthday cake can't possibly do that. My carbs were just under 200 grams (53 of which were fiber), not terrible, and calories were right at my RDI of 1700. So I'm not sure what the deal is. Haven't had a bowel movement in a couple days so that's part of it I guess.

But today was good, we had our annual In-Service meeting at work and I saw a lot of people who haven't seen me since last year. Got a ton of compliments and that's always nice. And honestly I like how I looked today so that's a feel good thing too.

Maybe I'll stop worrying about what the scale says so much, at least for now. I continue to fit better into clothes I didn't used to be able to wear, even wore a medium shirt this week although it is Hawiian style so it's probably cut larger than most mediums. I can tighten my belt another notch too. I need to take some body measurements and compare them to what they were months ago, if I kept the numbers from then that is.

I was hoping to be able to make my goal by May 1 which would be 1 year since I started. Doesn't look like I'll get anywhere close to that. But it's not a race, I'm trying to learn to be comfortable with the pace of my progress. The important thing is to be moving forward.

Off to dinner at Longhorn Steak House, going to get a nice steak, skip the potato and get a couple green vegetables as sides. Hope everyone has a great Friday evening and weekend.

Have a nice dinner Jim and a great weekend. The scale often lies, don't get upset about it, just keep going.

Scales don't tell the whole truth. Enjoy your dinner.

Lots of good advise here Jim. The most important thing you said was that it's NOT a race. You're doing so well! After all, it took over a year to put the weight on, didn't it? Enjoy that steak!

You are doing great, no matter the numbers on the scale! Like you said, other measures, wearing smaller sizes etc, tell the tale.

I was just looking at the menu online for the Black Angus Steakhouse, where i am meeting some friends for dinner and I decided on the same thing--a nice steak, and two green veggies. I am actually really looking forward to the grilled asparagus--I think that is a sign of how far I have progressed in my attitude toward all of this. Have a great weekend!

I totally get how you feel even though we all know the scale lies! It is like "Hey, I did well and worked hard" and then when we don't see the loss, it is frustrating. I actually get irritable! But, we cannot let it sabotage us into eating off track. The sugar in the cake may have spiked you.

I wasn't going to get on the scale every day, but I found when I didn't, then I messed up. I get on the scale and get so excited when it the number goes down, but so frustrated when I try so hard and it's the same or higher. I tell myself, it's muscle--it weighs more, you're working out, etc. LOL. Buttttttt....I'm like everyone else...it's frustrating. I'm starting over and at the beginning. I wouldn't even record when I started, but it's been a tad over 5 pounds that I've lost. Go for that steak!!!! I had a medium tuna salad today, only to find that the one website (not the restaurant's) said it was 520 calories for the medium. I could have had filet for that!

FORGET THE SCALE! If you are not taking measurements and using a skin fold for BF%...START!
