wholefoodnut's Journal, 27 January 2015

Crazy busy day at work, overtime, meetings, at least we didn't work through lunch. Thankful everyday that I have a decent job.

Planned on exercise at the community center after work, less traffic and closer to home. Stopped at one of my favorite mid-eastern stores on the way for some garbanzo bean flour, it was all changed. Turns out this is where the African store I went to last week is moving to, they are still moving. They have many of the same products plus some different ones as the previous one. I ended up spending a long time taking to one of the new owners about different foods and how to cook them. He previously had a restaurant geared toward north African and Moroccan food and may expand into a small one within the store.

Dang food obsession....Ended up with my flour, 2#s of millet flour, a 2# bag of brown cow peas (new to me), green cardamom (used in Moroccan and Indian cooking among others) and nice really spicy chili powder.

An hour later head home by now it's after 6:30, I'm hungry so dinner, clean-up, catchup on here and off to bed. Exercising late will keep me awake.

nicholaix you should seriously market that. wfn you were ahead of your time. My mom bought shaklee horse vitamins because Flintstone vitamins were bad for us. I don't think I could swallow a Shaklee vitamin today if I tried.

Do you have a food blog? I want to see the dishes that you make with all your new ingredients?

No be glad to send you anything you are interested in. Have thought about starting one recently. No clue how to do that and not sure I want to expend the time to answer people. This site and friends and family on face take of much time now.

wordpress has a free blog as well as a builder tool thats fairly easy. Googles blogger.com is really simple to set up also. Blogs can be just for you if you like to keep track of recipes or to share stuff with other people.

I was thinking of making a blog too but I have no idea what I would want to put on it. I use other peoples recipes. I am not inventive enough to make up my own. LOL!

Sure you are Mom. I use lots of other people's recipes. Once I learn how the seasonings and techniques for something work I add or subtract depending on what happen to have, what fits my eating plan or what is plentiful. I often feel like I'm in the middle of a chopped episode, smiles.

I LOVE that show! LOL! My nephew was a chef for most of his career and he and I were talking about the cooking shows. He thought my favorite would have been Paula Dean (that woman can cook!) but I told him I loved Chopped. He told me that Chopped was very much like being a chef in a restaurant. You had to take what was there and create masterful dishes out of it. I always feel like I am Hell's Kitchen and Gordon Ramsey is yelling over my shoulder! LMAO!

I buy too much for just me, by myself since 2007 , you would think I'd learn to cook and shop for one. I haven't....I'm forever staring at the veggies etc. I pull out if my frig that I know need to be used. Then it's ok what can I make with these???? Chopped!! Often good, sometimes not so good. True re:a chef and the restaurant business unless you are trapped in a chain. I love Gordon Ramsey shows!!!. Though in a real restaurant a screaming chef doesn't usually last long. I don't think he really treats his employees that way. From what I've read he is actually a good guy to work for, demanding but a good boss. Paula Dean can cook!! her calories are way off my plan..
