susan4animals's Journal, 10 December 2014

I've had the worst falling off fit lately. I can't get enough to eat! I suppose I was really starving myself there for awhile. I need to stay around the 500 - 700 calorie range, nothing less. I was just so close to my goal and it was taking forever that I was wanted to hurry things up! It can't be done like that and I should know that of all people. It's taken over two years to lose all of this weight. Altogether I have lost over one-half of my body weight. I know it's all about patience and more patience! I just got so close there and so happy that I lost my head! Losing weight can also turn into a disorder too if you let it. I've long reached my main goal. I now want to be so much thinner than I originally bargained for. I have been seeing a therapist and we're working on it. I just had so much extra weight that even after all the exercising I'm left with so much skin that all the exercising in the world will not get rid of and I don't have that perfect body I was expecting so I still feel fat. Plus, I was always fat, even as a kid, so I have the fat mentality. Now I'm down to 119 and still feel fat. It's really confusing. Thanksgiving really messed me up and now I can't get back on track and it's just getting worse. I'm just blowing off steam in case there are others out there like me. I was down to 116 and want to be at 109. At 109 I promise to stop and take my clothes in to my seamstress and have them taken in and stick to a good round diet and not lose anymore. Why it can't be 119 instead I don't know. Hope all is well with everyone. Will help anyone I can.

I went through something similar and lost huge amounts of hair (which took six years to recover) and was very nearly force fed with tubes. I'm glad you're seeing a therapist. This sounds like an unhealthy mentality that could potentially lead you down a very scary road, but it sounds like you kind of already know that. 500-700 calories isn't nearly enough, you should aim for 1000-1200, really. You have achieved something truly amazing and awe inspiring by losing half of yourself. Is skin removal surgery an option for you?

Bah, sorry if that sounds preachy, it's not meant to be x

But you have been there and done that JustJo23. I don't think it sounds preachy. Susan, have you heard of Alternative Day fasting. Maybe that might help instead. You would eat 500 calories, but only 2 days a week and you should go back to your healthy weight-loss in take the rest of the week. The 2 days of 500 should not be consecutive. It might help...but it does sound like you should consult a doctor. Do you work out? Weight lifting may help shape you more a way you might like. BTW, great job! That is truely amazing all that you have accomplished! I am trying to get down to 120. I hope to reach that goal before my 29th birthday. I have been trying this for about 2 years. I am trying the alternative day fasting, but taking a week off this week. Also you must eat foods that are whole and nutritious.

It was a good move to post that an get it out of your head and share it with others. It is great that you are seeing a therapist because while some things may be similar there are always unique personal aspects that require a personalized effort to adjust your thinking, in my experience. I would also offer that maybe instead of setting and adjusting weight-related goals that you shift to fitness-related goals, e.g. run a 10k, charity 50 mi bike challenge, or learn a new sport- e.g. rock climbing, tennis, or hike a difficult terrain... or focus on improving your technique if you already do all these things. And, celebrate your accomplishment. You have already transformed your body- now use it to do amazing things and take you to places you otherwise may never have seen! At least those are the reminders that motivate me in healthy ways. Hope you find a combination of things that work for you to maintain your health and well-being!!

Just my opinion but I think if you stay at your original goal of 120-125, which I saw on your profile you should be good, I don't know your height or body frame and lets face it our bodies do determine what our correct body weight should be. Then shift your thoughts to fitness, not weight. Eat to be healthy, I'm sure that was part of your original goal. Take up a new exercise , kick boxing or something different skating. Those would be different for me and if I were young I'd love to try that but I'm not and have arthritis. Your profile picture you look great! Be happy with yourself you deserve it, you have worked very hard to be where you are now. Try maintaining for awhile, maybe a year then you will know . Lets face it none of us got heavy overnight, it took years so our bodies have to adjust and that will take time too. Now get back on!

You are definitely not fat and I think the perfect bodies only have teenagers if they are taking care of themselves and have good genes, everything else you see in magazines is photoshopped.

You have accomplished so much, but if you are so hungry...maybe you should take a step back and think about why this is. You have been on a heavy calorific deficit for over two years...Your body is begging for food because it needs the food now that your fat stores are depleted. Incorporating a lot of high water content raw foods (fruits and green vegetables) into your diet will help with your cravings without adding on too many calories. Maybe it's time to hire a nutritionist to get your diet to where it should be to maintain both your weight and your health?
