Kathy Vanish's Journal, 23 October 2014

I wish everyday could be this quiet, peaceful, and stress free. Daughter is napping before ballet and I am standing here wondering what to do with myself. It was gorgeous weather here today so I took the dogs and the daughter on a walk and then we stayed outside for a while. I've got all my little chores done and since my back is really sore from exercising this week, I am taking the day off from hard exercises ( good thing I went on a walk or my pedometer would be really low.) I don't want to sit in front of the tv because I know I will snack. GOT IT! I will go play my piano.

hey you still play the piano? I play the piano accordion and I love to hear piano music! I find it so relaxing....it's also a lovely instrument to have at home....ah, those notes wafting into the air...you are very lucky!Do you play classic music or contemporary? your favourite composer? mine - Tchaikovsky... all classics really and Gershwin.

Yes, I got back into it after I got married and was able to afford an upright piano. I am actually starting to teach my daughter to play as well. I don't really have a favorite composer, but am trying to learn the songs from Frozen because my daughter asked me too. I also play the flute, piccolo, alto flute, bass flute, and tinker a little with the violin. I am thinking about getting a harp and giving that a try as I have always loved harp music. I play anything including jazz and rock and roll if that is the mood I am in. Yesterday I played my Frozen pieces and some classical.

you are an amazing woman, quite accomplished may I say....keep up the music part and I would definitely get the harp, if only i had the space, just looking at it is angelic, let alone plucking the strings. No one in my circle of friends plays music anymore and I used to love it when we would be at a gathering and there's a piano and someone would sit down and play out of memory and then would be joined with other less bolder pianists and make a duet...ah miss it...I only know one tune on the piano which i play with the right hand (since a piano accordionist I am good with the right hand on the keyboard and only press buttons with the left) and if there's a piano i always play it and it gets things moving, like an ice breaker, hehe!

Jen - I don't know about the accomplished part, but I live in a rural area so growing up we only had satellite TV and so it could be sketchy so I needed something to do. Now there is nothing on TV and since most of the schools in the area are canceling music programs I want my daughter to know that she can still learn to play an instrument and if I can't find a teacher I can do it myself.
