Hermiones Mom's Journal, 14 October 2014

I am STARVING! This has been going on for a couple of days now-- I think it's because I am staying up late working, and I'm burning more calories and I'm hungry. I'm trying really hard not to eat bad stuff- but I'm still eating a lot more calories than I normally would. I hope this stops soon, because I can't imagine that I could possibly lose weight eating like this!

When I really "need" to pig-out I eat a huge bowl of winter salad: shredded cabbage, brussels sprouts, broccoli... and whatever else I have on hand. Add a few nuts and/or raisins, top with dressing and I eat until I'm satisfied.

Oh Sammungee -- I would love to do that. You probably missed this, but I had a bad food-borne infection over the summer, and the cipro treatment for that gave me temporary IBS. So I cannot eat these delicious raw veggies yet. I'm almost back to a normal diet, thanks to probiotics, but every time I eat salad I get sick. It's very frustrating.

dear Hermiones Mom's. You are getting a lot of advice and you have answers that tell me that you really think this thing through and try to get to the bottom of this. I have two advices for you: 1. "gimme a steak kind of hungre". Could this be an iron deficit? How much iron do you eat in a day, and is your body still taking it in, or are you just peeing it out. (Ask a dokter he can measure your iron level in your blood) 2. there are a million kinds of protein powder. It is very old fashioned to think they are all stuffed with sugar, they all taste bad, or they are all from animal source. Get yourself informed on this, i am using a protein powder with 99% protein and 1% fat. that is plant-based. that means if i use 20 grams in my yoghurt, that i get almost 20grams more protein in a day!

I had the same starving I need beef now thing last week. A few days of more beef and adding some calories and I felt much better. I gained a couple of pounds back (1800 calories is too high but under 1600 's ok) but that's easy enough to fix. Sometimes you just gotta have the beef instead of the bird.

I am just now able to respond to your journal. I encourage you to keep going. You clearly have a handle on balancing food groups. I too find I must have more protein when I diet to give me energy. Hard boiled egg whites help. Also, Jay Robb protein mix is made with stevia not artificial sweeter. And its pretty good. I buy vanillia only and then add flavor to it for a change (my strawberries for the day or unsweetened cocoa or coffee). Protein gives you energy ... fat fills you up and keeps you full longer. Perhaps give up some of the oil for unsalted almonds?
