HealthyMeGoal's Journal, 26 October 2016

This makes no sense. I’ve weighed in unofficially every few days for the last week, so I know roughly where I am and what to expect on the scale tomorrow. However, because it’s the official weigh-in day, for some reason I’m experiencing a lot of anxiety and stressing myself out. Like I said, doesn’t make any sense. I’m actually fighting the urge to eat my stress right now. The mind boggles.

Maybe take a quick walk. I am a stress eater also and it is hard to fight, but you can do this.

Stress eating is hard. It's also hard not to look at the official DAY as a thing. Maybe record a few random weights as you go "unofficially" but on FS and then only base your progress based on the weekly weigh in.

THE SCALE DOES NOT RULE YOU!!!!! How do you feel, are you making progress in other areas? I used to be terrified of the scale and it dominated my moods and contributed to a vicious cycle of eating/not eating....a lot of ANGST!

I weigh myself once a week and accept whatever the results are. Usually when it goes up, I deserve it. When it goes down, I definitely deserve it. You don't want to let yourself get discouraged early on. I hope you can find some peace. 🕊

Take a DEEP breath and RELAX! I am not sure why you would be so anxious. Try to find something to do to get your mind off of the weigh-in/scale business. If you've been on point with your diet and/or activity then there should be no worries. Again, find something else to focus on.

Like I said, it makes no sense from a logical standpoint. I've been pretty good (not as "good" as the first week, averaging 100 cals more per day - meaning about 700 cals more per week), expecting to lose about a pound based on my un-official weigh-ins. Even so, stress. I've managed to finish a few little projects I was working on (literally, miniature playscale stuff), clean, wash dishes, and do my laundry. Still thinking about that weigh in. So stupid.

Do you have a history of anxiety?

Kind of like "white coat syndrome" If you've been true to your WOE you will go down. Sometimes we all have an uptick or a stall, but just keep doing what you know is right and it will come down in tine. Try to not stress, that raises your cortisol and makes losing more difficult. Praying for peace for you.

Lol! This isn't the biggest loser. No money is at stake. It's a day like any other. If the stress comes from posting the result, go ahead and post it more frequently. You need to have freedom from scale rule. The majority of people here, totally understand scale fluxes. The others be forgotten.

Re: History of anxiety - yes. I used to get these migraines that were blinding (literally, I'd lose my ability to see) and it turned out to be stress. I actually had to switch jobs to relieve some of the stress and the migraines stopped. No, it's not the biggest loser and there's no money at stake, but the stress is still there. I'm not saying it makes sense (it doesn't). I think I may go ahead and weigh in a little more frequently and record it to get away from this "single day everything rides on it" feeling. I had the same thing last week.

Healthy, i think that's a good idea. Its a kind of exposure therapy for scales. You can do this! I only chuckle because i think most of us have gone through this at some point.

Sounds nuts but one thing I do when I am stressed about the scale is pick a weight that I think I could live with that's higher than I think it could be. If it's lower than that number, then I am happy. LOL Like I said, nuts. How about this?? DON"T weigh yourself on "official" weigh-in day..the heck with it...weigh yourself the day before and the day after. OR skip a week. Or pick a morning when you are feeling more confident. Then you will stop fixating on "the day". Change it up! As far as why you are having anxiety - I am a strong believer in our "lizard brain" which is that stupid part of our brains that help us survive. It's your lizard brain that is yelling for the stress eating so don't you dare listen! That lizard brain is not in charge of your body - your "smart" brain is. So tell yourself, I am having anxiety about my weigh-in and I will not eat in response to that. Say it out loud and talk back to lizard brain - you are in charge not it!

Set yourself biweekly goals, but do not weight in officially or unofficially until the end of the two weeks. I have experience the same anxiety if I weight in every other day. So I do understand your dilema.

Thankfully my other half will be home soon and I'll be distracted. C'mon distraction!

Isn't it crazy this weight thing!? On days when I am tired and struggling a crappy weigh-in just tops it off, doesn't it? Then on some other random day, the scale shows lighter and I get a real morale boost. Everyone here is right, we need to rise above it. Thanks for sharing. It is hard.

I hate how much power it apparently has over me. It's horrible.
