DairyKing's Journal, 27 August 2014

Good Morning, FS Warriors! Well, I really didn't have anything to say, but I have kind of gotten to the point where I feel guilty not coming on here and telling my most innermost secrets. Ha! I won't anyway. LOL! You guys thought you were going to get some juicy stuff, I'll bet. Nothing earth shattering going on in my life. I've got a whole family of drama queens, so I've learned to tune out most noise, unless I hear the sirens coming. Well, as I mentioned previously, I did sleep in this morning. Didn't get up until 5:15. I had planned to get up at 4 and do an upper boddy workout, but I hit the snooze button a few times, and the rest is history. I will probably do the workout tonight, after I return from the nursing home gig, change clothes, and feed the big dog again.

Well, you know, that idle hands are the devil's workshop - or in this case, I guess it's feet. After only 3 days since the 10K, I started searching for other races that occur before the end of the year. I found "Trotting for Tatas," a Breast Cancer awareness benefit run that has been put on in the neighboring city for the past two years. I couldn't find any evidence that it is scheduled again this year, somewhere near mid October, but I'm hoping. I found the name of one of the people that I believe helps organize the event, and I messaged her to find out if the event will be held again this year. She hasn't answered yet. Benefits go to support Fulton County Pink, Inc., a local non-profit organization focused on providing support to Fulton County residents in the early detection and treatment of breast cancer. As you can tell from the title of the race, they try to take a light hearted approach to addressing the serious issue of breast cancer. As you know, DW had surgery, chemo and radiation, and is now cancer free. The first race was held in 2011; I hope they keep it up.

Nursing home gig tonight. I haven't gotten any wind of any talent scouts in the area. :D Since we don't have a lot of time between the time I get home from work and the time we have to be there to set up, we are planning on pulled pork sandwiches for supper. They're not exactly dieters' delight, and really, I could live forever without a pulled pork sandwich, but a man's got to do what a man's got to do. DW likes them, and if I start complaining about any of her meal choices, I'm liable to find myself eating squash and eggplant every night, and finding something I like about it.

Anyway, like I said, I don't have anything to say, so I wish you all a great Thursday, and an even better day tomorrow. Toodles!

Glad you posted. I've gotta learn that tuning-out-the-drama skill. Funny how GoodMan can hear the same tone of voice in one of the family members and not obsess about how they're feeling...are they mad, sad, tired, etc...he just figures if there's a problem they'll come and tell him...gotta learn that skill!

DK you are just rocking this running thing...one of my other buddies, ChristyLA, mentioned something called "ChiRunning" in her journal a couple days ago. I looked up and it IS really interesting...maybe check it out.

I think that jeffgalloway (running consultant for Disney and former Olympian) has a pretty good run/walk concept program for injury free running also. Just put .com after his name and watch his videos if you're interested.

The fact that you slept in until 5:15 is news enough. I'm not a big fan of pulled pork either, but since moving to NC I just go with the flow.

Just found out the Board decided not to do the Trotting for Ta tas again this year. Sigh. :(

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. Check out the Susan G Komen site. They might have something of interest.

Trouting for Tatas sounds right up your alley, DK. LOL. Btw, have you every looked at active.com. Great place to go for events in your area. Enjoy the dieter's delight you have planned. Haha.

Thanks, Heather! That's a pretty cool website that alerted me to a few events that weren't listed on the running club's website. I have decided though that my next big race will be a half marathon next year at the end of May. It has rolling hills but, no mountain climbing. I might do a 5K or two, or even another 10K, between now and then, but now I've got a touch of the distance bug.
