EFudd's Journal, 30 June 2017

Damn it, dammit, dammit. One of my coworkers was laid off, and a group of us took her to lunch today at an Indian restaurant. I called ahead and questioned the restaurant staff, I read the menu online to make sure there were keto-safe entrees, and I questioned the waitress again when I got there, making sure she knew I'm diabetic and that I need food without added flour, sugar or corn starch. With her help, I chose lamb kebab marinated in lemon juice, mint and spices. The dish came with sauteed vegetables, which the waitress assured me were non-root veggies and cooked in vegetable oil. The lamb was fine, but one bite of the veggies and I *KNEW* they'd been cooked with some sort of sweetener. I asked the waitress, and she said she'd ask the cook. When she came back, she said that the veggies were sauteed in the same pan used to cook Chicken Manchurian, and with the same sauce -- a sauce made with sugar, flour and corn starch. Dammit so much ... and I thought I was being careful. I'd say I had about 1/3 of a cup of those blasted veggies, out of about a cupful of veggies. I don't know how to count the calories or carbs in that dish, but I'm sure they were more than I usually allot myself. So much for keto. I'll have a very light dinner, and maybe a fast day (less than 550 cals.) tomorrow. And I thought I was being so good. If I show a weight gain tomorrow I'm going to be furious.

great that you caught it before it became a much bigger issue. I admire the planning and preparation that you put into that lunch. If you have a little gain tomorrow, just imagine the greater loss the next week...keep it up
