Working on home projects today and planting some seeds for our winter hydroponic garden with the kids after school.
I have been thinking about making a few new pieces of clothing at this size but after the holidays I want to make the push to goal which will drop me a size or two more. Do you guys wait for a significant drop or buy new clothes as you need them?

Nich, since i work from home , the only thing I've bought is smaller work out pants bc mine were literally falling off. I am lucky enough to have held on to my 14's (i was up to 22) out of shear vanity so even though some of it is outta fashion, my jeans and sweaters still work. If I worked outta the house, i would def be buying at least one outfit each payday to keep up with the Jones.. So right now I live in yoga pants and the few pairs of jeans I can get into and have been focus my wardrobe budget on shoes bwahahah.. I would prolly buy my stuff at a thrift shop so I wouldnt feel so bad about abandoning it when I lost more weight however if you think you are gonna stay at this size for at least 3 months or longer, then i would buy a few things..

I go to resale shops and get pants...then take them to tailor for hemming. In the end they still end up costing like $12 a pair - hard to beat that!

I just go to Goodwill and buy whatever has the "color of the day 50% off" tag. You can find really nice stuff, a lot of brand new and even designer clothing. I had given away most of my "skinny" clothes, that were mostly designer clothing, only kept a few pieces, and those are more of a "special occasion" kind. Since I went on this journey I had to pretty much re-new my wardrobe 4 times, about every 2 months. I couldn't have done it otherwise, being on a fixed income. But trust me, $2 pants, $1.50 blouses, $2 skirts, $1.50 sweat and sports pants, when they look great and brand new, are awesome.

I also stopped at thrift shops often, shopped their sales often. I had to have clothes for work that were not falling off. It also made me feel better to wear clothes that fit. I'd only get enough of one size to barely get me through my work days.

A new Goodwill just opened less than a mile from my house, it's a fairly nice area so they get some nice donations. My wife got some nice stuff from there last week and I got a new looking pair of jeans. As for getting new clothes as I lose weight, I wait until I need them. But I don't have a lot of stuff so tend to wear out clothes, especially pants, pretty quickly...usually by the time I've needed a smaller size it's time to get something new anyway.

I waited and waited and kept waiting until people at my job started saying my clothes are falling off of me when are you going shopping. I have to admit, I was tired off pulling my belt tight with a new hole I made and seeing my pants sag, but everybody doesn't have money to just go out a buy a new wardrobe. A friend of mine gave me some skirts and I picked up a few things once I realized I looked a little sloppy. Glad I waited just to make sure I wasn't dreaming !! LOL

Take into consideration also the fact that as you start shrinking, once you get to Medium size and below, you find even more brand new designer stuff at Goodwill. For some reason, Goodwill's customers rate of obesity seems to be even higher than average, so nobody really buys the smaller sized clothes. I know it's a sensitive subject, but believe me, once you get there it's such a great feeling of accomplishment when you realize that you actually have to look in the Medium and Small size clothing racks to find something that fits you.

I am still in a large so I may just wait a bit, although I think I will go into town and sort through Goodwill. A couple pairs of pants and a couple sweaters and I should be fine. I destroy clothes cooking and working outside so I need some new seasonal stuff anyway. I was 40 lbs heavier last winter I think, everything Ive been pulling out is huge.I had made some summer stuff but doesna help now. Thanks for the input everyone.

I've been up and down so many times that I've got several different sizes of jeans in my closet from 5 to 14, so I'm now in 10 stretch or 12 reg......lol

I am in the same boat. I am down a size, but all of my pants from before I got to this weight are at least another size smaller. I'm going to just hold off as long as I can. I'm hoping that in a couple of weeks those pants will fit me again.

I usually only buy new clothes when my wife says I need to buy new clothes. LOL!

Got rid of the loose pants. When the current pants begin to get tight, puts me right back in the mindset to lose again because I really don't want to buy more in a size larger again.

Like a lot of others here, I've been shopping thrift/consignment for smaller clothes (only out of need -- been digging stuff out of the back of the closet to see what fits first) . . . I'll continue to shop thrift regardless, but will splurge on retail now and again once I settle into (AND sustain) my 'final destination' size. Wish I was talented enough to make my own clothes, though! That's an awesome gift to yourself!

Nicole, fabric has gotten expensive and sewing means lots of time. I can't afford to sew clothes. Thrift shops and outlet stores are my savior for clothes. Might even find some designer cool clothes for your kids for cheap. I spend the fabric $$ on quilts--will get back to my passion once I get my house done. Dang too much time on this re-do.

Actually I found a fabric warehouse online that sells some fabrics at 1.99 a yard with flat rate shipping. I found some very nice wool blend suitings for some pants and a skirt. We have a fabric warehouse in town that sells by the pound too. I use thrift store fabrics sometimes too. We don't have much for thrift stores, a Goodwill and a Salvation Army. I sew in the evening after the boys settle in, I don't get out much.
