Taking it back to basics this upcoming week. My mom is here for a few months till her house is ready and she has really bad eating habits. I'm not judging at all, bc her choices are her own but its hard not to fall back into those habits as well bc that's how we grew up. Its def a lot easier to cut corners. I also need to keep reminding myself not to nag her about it. She is an adult and knows what she is doing. So setting my goals this week and sticking to them. I will not be pursued to the dark side. bahahaha. On a side note, adding in CLA's to my supplements and setting a goal of cardio 3 times this week bc Ive been slacking. My routine is outta wack since Mom got here. Time to take control back. I just hope I don't drive her crazy in the process. Happy Sunday everyone ! Looking forward to awesome week !!

Be sure to stand up for yourself and your new health journey. Most of the habits that we learn, good or bad, come from our family of origin. Remember that it's ok for you to disagree with your mom and her to disagree with you on how you eat or, what she thinks you "should eat". I have thought a lot about this myself and my mother only did what she knew. Nothing more. I now know a LOT more than she ever did about taking care of my body and I put that knowledge to good use. Hope everything turns out for the best. :)

Just stick to your plan and don't let your mom derail you. You're an adult also.

your mind, your body, your choice,, My husband tried to force a yummy looking breadstick in my face yesterday,, which I really did not want if I had I would of asked for it so I shoved it back at him. It really kind of pissed me off that he would do that , he knows I don't eat bread he was just being a jerk .

I'm sure it can be tough with your mom there and different eating habits. Hopefully you can both co-exist as adults on your own eating paths. I'd be interested in hearing what your thoughts are about the CLA's, if they seem to make any difference for you. I've been taking them for a while, can't say I've noticed anything as far as weight loss effect, but one of the books I've read about reversing heart disease recommends taking them in conjunction with Omega 3 oil for heart health benefits.

Red, curious how your mom has reacted to your weight loss...

Alpha, my mom has bragged about my weight loss to her friends but its hard for me to get compliment from her with out fishing for one. She is quick to point out to me how fat I was and even compared me to being pregnant. She has little or no respect for my commitment to the gym. However, when its her turn to cook or she helps in the kitchen she is careful what to add to my plate and always asks before adding something and is careful with what she brings home when we shop together but makes no effort to hide her junk food or bad habits. I basically just kinda ignore her carbage and do my own thing. I know she is happy for me but really doesn't show it but I think its bc she just doesn't know any better. But I'm at a point where I don't let her opinion bring me down. I've had to just remind myself Im doing this for me and the person's opinion that matters is mine and hope some of my new habits rub off on her.

Redgirl, I wonder if it might be hard for your mom to fully acknowledge your success because to do so would also be acknowledging the same place in her life that she struggles (food/habits)? Truthfully I really have no idea, it's just a thought I had. Regardless I am sure she loves you and and is proud, whether or not she gives you full recognition of it that you would like. Family relationships are a complicated puzzle.

Jmb, my mom didn't have a good relationship with her mom meaning there weren't a lot of hugs and "I love you's" so its hard for her to express emotions to me and my sisters and I usually need to take the lead on those things and Im ok with this .And things were really tight for her growing up so she always buys the cheapest meals or deals without paying attention to nutritional value just out of habit. I dont blame her for her shortcomings. My DH and I were just talking about helping her improve her habits while she is here. Just today she took some lunch instead of hitting McD's for lunch so its progress.. baby steps..

I would think that the hardest part of Mum & your diet is that she's going to bring junk food into your healthy, clean kitchen. Any way she can just keep it in her room? Garbage Carbs aren't good for any member of the family, and now is when children learn from your example of eating right.

This will be a true test of your self control. My husband and daughter are not on a calorie diet and therefore we have junk food all over our house. Chips, crackers, cookies. This has never once deterred me from my calorie counting what so ever. I have even made treats like, short bread cookies, brownies and cakes. I even watch Food Network. Punishment? maybe. But I have never cheated. You are a strong women (it sounds as such) and I believe you can say no thank you and still let them eat what they want.

Callredge, its def a test of my self control and I wont lie, i cheated last week here and there but not enough to make an impact. One of my goals this week is to recommit to my long term goal and buck up. Soonsoon, yesterday I cleaned and organized my fridge and cabinets so mom has her own spaces for her "crap" So far its only been a few bags of chips and crackers. AND I suggested that instead of her buying any groceries, she instead "pitch" in and Ill take care of the shopping. Hopefully that works.

Rckc, i bought a brand of CLA called EVL CLA1000 bc they had excellent reviews. I've been taking for 3 days now and can prolly provide you with a better review in 2-3 weeks however I have high hopes for these bc ALL the reviews were 5 stars. I do want to add that I do think everyone of those people who posted reviews prolly had dedicated them to diet and exercise, which I'm sure didn't hurt. I'm hoping to gain an edge and control my appetite some while developing more lean muscle. Ill report back soon...

I'm with you! I Need to stay focused and not allow food to have the control, I have the control and food is food and does not have the capability, only I make the decision to eat what I need to eat and not what I want to eat! Stay strong and confident! 😃
