I didn't realize my sweet potatoes were canned in cane sugar syrup. I passed because I don't want to deal with sweet tasting foods right now. I got full eating the open faced beef sandwich and broccoli. It was an "I don't want to eat anymore" fullness. That doesn't happen when I eat the take out foods I have logged. I stop eating when the container is empty. I ate PB toast this morning. I was happy with 2 slices and usually I eat 4. Good things are happening.

I am currently going thru the same sort of dilemma. I am trying to get as low as I can on my refined sugars and sodium. That makes up a lot of what I ate. Even hamburger and the frozen chicken! The can inject the meat with sodium! I shop at nite so I can take my time reading labels . No lie.

@29p2 I went and bought a vitamin this weekend (I normally read the labels, but hubby was with me so I hurried because he hates shopping). By the time I got home, I didn't think about it. I swallowed a couple of those bad boys, and immediately tasted sweetness. I'm like "what the hey...?!" THEN, I read the label. It was a dissolvable full of sugar and maltodextrin...smh.

People's food challenges are as unique as snowflakes. About sodium: I was cutting my fasts short because of muscle cramps in my left hip and calf. To get more sodium, I oversalted my eggs, ate saltines and corn chips (across a few meals). Now, I can fast comfortably for 72 hours with no cramping at all. About sugar: I know there is cane sugar in my bread and corn syrup in my BBQ sauce, and I still ate them because that is what I wanted and if I skipped them, I would have felt deprived. The sweet potatoes in sugar syrup are in a huge can and I would have had to eat them over several meals. That posed too much of a risk in my mind - I didn't want to set myself up for sugar cravings.

I have to dodge the sugar beast too. Once bitten I turn into the cookie monster and nothing is safe! Lady D, during my fasts when I start cramping, I get me a wine glass full of pickle juice and sip on it, works like a charm most of the time, if it doesn't, I add some no salt to my water it has lots of potassium, for me, muscle cramps mean salt and when the top of my feet and my shins cramp. It's potassium I need. I soak once a week in epsom salts...so I never have an issue with magneisum.

Bake medium size fresh, whole sweet potatoes at 400° for one hour. If you have quality potatoes, they don't need any additions, delicious on their own.

I just cooked up some bone broth and can have that if I need minerals. So far, so good. Most of the challenge is mental at this point.

Pizza, nachos, chinese food are things that don't fill me unless I eat significant volume to the point my stomach feels stretched. My stomach is smaller, now, so I could get by with less volume now than in the past. Since I now log everything I eat, I don't know if they have a future in my diet. How the heck do you log nachos? Anyway, I listened to enough of the Carnivore Doctor's YT about the toxicity of seed oils to really turn me off about eating out. Even Chipotle uses seed oils. Why bother? It's healthier to cook at home.

They even squirt grilled meat with the seed oils. I have celiac, so that cuts out anything bready. It pretty much leaves me to a salad with no dressing, so why bother! I'd rather eat at home where I know what I'm getting.
