nicholaix's Journal, 30 April 2015

Well at the age of 50 I finally get it.I can work out until my feet fall off and it won't matter if I eat mindlessly, even if its 'healthy' food. Calories is calories is calories. Too many from any source and you don't lose and most likely gain. You cant undo that pizza with a run, extra pilates wont negate the coffeecake. You HAVE to be accountable for how many calories you are eating. There is no magic pill.
I think i will have to track my eating for the rest of my life. Its a fair trade off and I am ok with that.

You got it! Calories burned must be more than calories consumed. If you burn more, you will lose. Even if you don't immediately see a loss on the scale and you know you ate right and exercised, the weight has to come off. Sooner than later. :)

Very Insightful Post...and I also am NOW thinking I will probably be logging food for the rest of my days as it helps me so much toward being mindful about my eating. Continuing BEST wishes to you for a STRONG FINISH to your college degree. Have a great Friday and a great weekend.

Right there with you. 10,000 calories of fruit, veggies and lean meat is 10,000 calories. No way around it. Eating healthy is great, but if you're not watching the calories you still may not end up 'healthy'.

So true. Nicole, I will probably also have to log food forever to watch the calories. Thanks for the reminder. I've been lax lately about measuring everything that goes into a dish and determining how many portions it actually made. Recipes that say 4 portions are often 6 for me. I've been having trouble logging because I'm not putting recipes in my cookbook.

I tell people all the time, you have to get your eating cleaned up and going in the right direction first and foremost. If not you're just spinning your tires.

I know, right? It's so frustrating!

I so agree with you! I read an article today that summed it up nicely by saying said "you can't outrun a bad diet". That resonated with me!

I agree with you entirely. I know if I don't log and watch the calories as well as the carbs that losing weight won't happen. Hope you have some time to relax over the weekend and get rested up.

WELL BURST MY BUBBLE! LOL! no seriously, my sister and I were just thinking the same thing. I am an addict, I am addicted to food. logging my food makes me accountable.

Train your mind and body to be satisfied with the recommended amount of calories and eat that most days. :)

It's also not just the number of calories but the content

hahahaha busting the bubble is right!! But I agree with you. You have to be mindful when you do have a meal off your diet plan. I think cheating on occasion (this does not mean every few days either) has to be well planned and thought out.

That's right, eating clean is the big step to weight loss! The scale likes to tell me that. Even though it doesn't know what I eat, it definitely knows if what I ate was not easy to digest...therefore resulting into weight gain. Yes, mind over matter.
