Woke at 224.0, down 4.3 after 36 hours of water fasting (black coffee and sparkling water). Took a glucose and ketone test to see the effects. Got a 99 on glucose, which showed a good liver dump of glucose overnight. Got a .8 ketone reading, which shows nutritional ketosis.

Dawn effect occurs when hormones (including cortisol, glucagon, epinephrine) are released by the body, causing the liver to release glucose. My blood glucose is usually in the 80s, sometimes the 70s. Despite not eating anything yesterday, it was 99 upon waking, showing this dawn phenomenon effect.

Nutritional ketosis is .5 to 3 milligrams per deciliter. This means the body is using fat for fuel. I also had dreams of food and pretty women all night, which also pointed to the hunger and hormonal changes I was experiencing! 😉

LOL. A common phase for me, Jergens! I use a test strips and prick my finger for these tests. I don't do them often anymore as I know my blood glucose is under control and I'm not really chasing ketone readings anymore. But every now and then I'll check to see the effect of something I've eaten (or not).

I avoid finger pricks so I guess I’m gonna stay ignorant. Had those every other Wednesday the first seven years of my life. Glad you’re feeling good and doing well, Draglist!
