Now into day 6. She whines to go outside. Works for me. Will do the bell training a little further down the road.

Apparently you can wait until the dog cues you, then ring the bell, take them outside and let them go. Once they get the association, you hang the bell and get them to ring it when they want to go. Eventually, they just ring the bell. "Oh, butler. I need out."

Our dog didn't catch on to bell traing, where a string of bells is hung by the door. You jangle the every time you take her out, and eventually she'll jingle them to ask you to let her out. I think the younger the better. My dog just gives me a very subtle look when she needs out. Won't bark or whine. Some family members can't see the look and I can miss it if I'm not paying attention. I'd rather have bells. Good luck and I think she/he looks like a great walking partner! ☺
