Sharons Victory's Journal, 19 November 2018

ok my friends...

I'm gonna talk about what most of us are most likely thinking about....THANKSGIVING!!!!

lol

So I've learned that if I'm good 90% of the time a total binge day just delays weight loss but doesn't make me gain...

but I just got over my binging so I'm kinda bummed to delay my weight loss again...

I have not eaten bad food during the holidays in the past and I did actually miss it very much so I don't think I want to do that since there's a lot of things I'll literally only be able to get this one day.

So what's everybody's plan? Maybe you guys can inspire me or give me some ideas to not be the worst I am capable of being?

I was toying with the idea of making low carb desserts and buying cauliflower mash from Costco and then only eating a little bit of the bad stuff...but then I know myself and that I tend to be very all or nothing so I don't think that'll work with me...if I'm going to eat some bad stuff I'm going to want it all and then my healthy desserts and sides are just gonna go to waste...

Just looking for ideas, input, inspiration...what are you guys gonna do?

Thanks :)

Lol I’d do the same as Chris. Eat the green beans out of the casserole but don’t scoop up the extra soup and onions. Hit the veggie tray. Load your plate with half meat. My dessert is always a second plate of potatoes and turkey 😖. This year I hope to play ball with the kids for half an hour or an hour after lunch. That way I can burn some calories and o won’t feel bad about eating that second plate. That is if I can even eat it with my stomach being smaller! We have 3 Thanksgiving meals this week, one last week and at least one restaurant meal this week. It’s going to be hard but if I add in exercise that I normally wouldn’t do then I have nothing to feel guilty about 😉. Perhaps you could take a walk if it’s nice, get a physical game going among family or offer to hand scrub the dishes and clean the counters. Any extra movement will help offset those goodies! But please don’t limit yourself so much that you don’t enjoy the day!

Been tracking some calories on thanksgivings food ... it’s all portion control and remember everything tastes better when your happy. Stressing about it will do worse damage than just letting the day happen.

Man I can do two weeks of dmg in a day, not sure that's good advice. :P Anyway, as far as Thanksgiving, I will probably have two large meals and not worry too much. Get back on it on Friday.

portion control, most of thanksgiving basics are not harmful, you just have to limit your deserts, so try to enjoy yourself.

I don't typically gain during the holidays. So I'm sticking with eating what I like. We're having turkey, stuffing (mmmm sodium), roasted carrots and parsnips, sauteed brussels sprouts with bacon and shallots, green beans with garlic. There will be ONE pie made, I'm thinking pumpkin. Leftover stuffing will be tossed, rest will be packed up for lunches during the week and whatever I decide to make and freeze.

We are odd! Going out to dinner with friends for turkey dinner. I'm sure portions will be large since it's restaurant food and the sodium will last me a week. Lots of water will help that. I will give some of my plated food to hubby (except for the turkey) because I'm not a big fan of most TG-Day foods. I'm picky about how dressing is made, don't like green bean casserole or pumpkin pie. Hoping they do have some plain veggies on the menu for me. But then I do have my frozen slice of cheesecake hidden in the freezer here at home just waiting to be devoured Thursday night. I am roasting a white meat only turkey roast so we will have turkey at home for a few more days but I won't be doing any of those sides except for some cranberries to brighten up my baby cheesecake. Not going to worry about calories. Just need to hop back ip on the wagon until Christmas when my other slice of cheesecake calls me home. 🧀+🍰+🦃 makes me happy!

For a family get together, it's the pre-dinner snacks that are the most dangerous.

Hi there!)) in my opinion , one spoon leads to another .... you have to options , either you eat healthy as usual and don't think about junck .... or fast all day and then eat whatever you want in just one meal and thrn go back to the healthy diet , like that you won't destroy your gains 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻😁 , good luck

I don't call it a binge or cheat day, I call it carb rebuilding day !!! I know I could never not eat the Holiday foods, so I try to loose a little extra weight so I can eat some HOLIDAZE FOODS, i know I will get back on track !!!

okay, I have been dreading the holidays actually for that very reason. I have lost quite a bit of weight despite all of my health issues working against me, I do mean ALL of my health issues... So here is my plan, I plan to eat a lil bit of each food, not over indulge, and I'm bringing gluten free foods....including gluten free cookies and brownies...im counting calories, watching portion size, and if I feel full I will stop eating. It's about portion control and counting calories, I know if I slip up once and eat something I shouldn't, I usually feel awful for it...dont regret eating like I sometimes do....Happy Holidays and good luck.

My 2cents...if your totally into a healthy lifestyle...then one holiday isn’t gonna make a difference....sure the scales might go up..but you have the education to get back into the drivers seat and take control back...to make them scales happy once again...stressing over what you have control over....is it really worth it...

I tend to agree with Wannab. It's a holiday meal. Enjoy it and get back on plan the next day.

I plan to cook healthy for Thanksgiving. Going to make all the trimmings, but a healthier approach. Also going to make some low carb stuff too. And I plan to enjoy it lol. I have 6 I'm actually feeding, and a bunch that will stop in to eat lol. We'll have people all day and all day Friday. So there has to b lots of food.

I plan to go out of town, eat someone else's great food, then drive home and leave any leftovers behind.

I too am stressing over it . I know one day won't cause me to gain everything I've loss but it's stressing since I weigh on Fridays. I'm going to weigh Thursday but still going to do portion control and see how things look Friday. lol not planning on any sweets so that should help.

It's not worth stressing over. The fact that you're showing concern is the positive attitude to enjoy the Holiday and if portion control works, that's a bonus. If not, the few extra pounds will come off when you get back into it. Enjoy!!!
