lcnrainbow - I'm a 55 yr old female professional; married 22 years to Bob, 2 puppies who are 8 months old - Dixie and Tanner. I travel a lot for work, so eating out is always a challenge. I hope to give and get support on this site, and hear the stories of my fellow South-Beachers...

Need motivation
Every day is fresh with no mistakes. It doesn't matter what you did yesterday, it doesn't matter what you plan to do tomorrow. It's what you do with today.

From someone who has struggled with weight for MANY years, I have to force myself to pay attention just today and not feel guilty about the past, nor fantasize about how great I will do tomorrow, it's the choices I'm making NOW that I have control over.

Today is all you have to worry about! So set that alarm and tell yourself that just for today, you can get up and go take care of yourself. You don't have to do it tomorrow, just today. At least that's what works for me. Cool

Glad to offer the information! The book isn't another diet book, though, it is a book that, if you are a flour/sugar addict, can set you free. It set me free once, I lost about 50 pounds and held a normal weight with little or no varience for 3 blissful years. It's not for everybody, though, because you really DO give up all forms of flour and sugar, and not everybody needs to go to that extent. Only if you really are addicted. If you ask me why I picked up the flour and sugar again, my only response is I thought I could handle just a little... 10 years later, after a honkin' big weight gain and numerous attempts at "normal dieting", I have, for today, surrendered to the fact that I am indeed an addict of flour and sugar, and for today, I've decided to give it up. Cool

There's this great book, "Food Addiction, The Body Knows". I don't know if it's still in print, but if you are addicted to carbs, you will recognize yourself in this book! It has taken me a major clear-out of the kitchen and some serious food planning to cut out the white stuff again (I followed the food plan in that book years before South Beach or Adkins was out), and man, did it WORK. I not only lost my cravings and the extra weight, my mind got clearer, I needed less sleep, I had incredible energy...Gave it all up to eat bread again, and well, folks, here I am, needing to lose more than ever before. I can happily say, however, that I have had no white stuff for almost a month.

Just for today, I can refrain from flour and sugar! Cool

Thanksgiving & Holiday planning
Here's a low-carb crust I came up with - it's a little chewy, but it's good!

(I used this recipe for one 10" sugar free pumpkin cheesecake, and it was YUMMY)

Substitute roasted oatmeal for 75% of the crumbs called for in your recipe, and
make the other 25% roasted pecans.

To roast, spread the raw oatmeal (don't use instant, it's processed!), and nuts on a cookie sheet, bake in a 450 degree oven for about 5 minutes or so. Watch closely so the nuts don't burn, shaking the pan to toss and flip the oatmeal and nuts. Put the roasted oatmeal and nuts in a food processor and process until finely ground.

Let cool, and then mix with whatever measure of "butter" the recipe calls for. Toss in 1 T of granulated Spenda that measures like sugar (the sugar-free type, not the 1/2 spenda 1/2 brown sugar stuff), a good dash of cinnamon.

Spray your pie plate with Pam, and then press the crust into the bottom. Bake for 5-7 minutes at 350 degrees, then cool before adding your filling.

You could use savory spices instead of Spenda and cinnamon for a quiche. Cool
