Day 2 of the carb load was yesterday. Bumped it up again. If anyone is wondering if starchy carbs affect weight by water retention, just have a look at my last two weigh-ins. Today is restricted calories and tomorrow will be a fast day if I'm not going rock climbing. It's uncertain at the moment.
I still feel relatively satisfied and could go without eating this morning. I'll likely feel full with the bulletproof coffee and a few oats. Off we all go into the temptations of the day.

(Commenting on your post for anyone that wasn't aware: Definitely carbs can cause the "illusion" of gain if your glycogen stores were depleted - and for every gram of glycogen restored, it comes with an accompanying water storage of 3 grams - with the few hundred g our bodies store, it adds up, but it's not fat!)

Exactly. I'm not sure if I believe in 'starvation mode' or not, and I certainly don't believe I was in it, but I do believe that the endocrine system can take a beating with the long term restriction of any single macronutrient... not that I was skipping birthday cake when it showed up. :) Thanks for 'weighing in' real_gone

No question for me, extra carbs particularly sugar or refined, my weight goes up. Have fun rock climbing if you go, be safe.
