pizza weight (two nights in a row). not worried. kept under calories, did a pretty intense rowing workout around 10. thankful I'm one of those people who can absolutely fall asleep after hard exercise and sleep through the night. Zzzzzz.
decided we're going ahead with surgery on Hogan. best not to wait and it will immediately relieve the pressure on his spine. vet seems relieved as well. she can't tell me what to do, but is supportive. prognosis for a dog his age and in shape is pretty good. feeling good about that. in the meantime, he's on crate rest again and I walk him around with a dog handle so he doesn't slip and re-injure himself from the fall. no one around me thinks I'm crazy, so that's good, too. got some grip booties arriving tomorrow to help with that as well.
I try to live my life without regrets for the things I've done. still using the rower and not lamenting the purchase. would I have done it if I knew what was coming? no, but here we are anyways. that said, decided I really like the challenge of two twenty minute workouts versus a thirty and a ten. using apple fitness+ and they don't have anything longer, so I make up my own combos. it's here, might as well use it.
heart rate experiment has been fun and it's cool to see trends as I get better at new things. was contemplating tracking BP before and after exercise, but decided that might take me down a rabbit hole of obsession where I'm not an expert, so we'll just stick with normal check-ins from time to time. got enough dog health stuff to track anyways. if you're wondering, it should return to "normal" within two hours after, give or take.
fruit is insanely inexpensive compared to other things, so more of that and less of other things. not a bad thing. I love raspberries and they're plentiful. I prepped the strawberries immediately, so shouldn't lose them to molds. tried your trick, Shir, we'll see how it goes. also cut up a baby watermelon into chunks. love that stuff.
so there you go, shot below is from Coronado's dog beach last week with the Hotel Del Coronado in the background with views down to Mexico. posting because I need to make the time to go more often. I forget how beautiful it is and the sea is so restorative. there was pretty huge surf that day as well, which is cool because our southern facing beaches are generally more flat than the northern facing ones. I just love the sound of the waves. going to revive a rule I had when I first moved here, but revised for work and other reality. when I first moved here, I went to the beach every day (I took a couple months off work) and walked a ton. I'm going to pledge to myself to go no less than twice a month and try to push it up from there. it's a safer place to walk than my neighborhood while Hogan is recuperating anyways and the sand is fantastic for the calves and butt.
weekend rules for the rest of the day. enjoy this fabulous Sunday and let's all pray to whomever you speak to for all this stuff going on in the world to resolve peacefully and soon.
