Maintenance is.... 1. Finding a healthy, personally sustainable way of eating that fits your own lifestyle, desires and is not burdensome. 2. Finding daily and weekly activities that help burn calories but more importantly keep blood moving, muscles from disappearing and are fun (again, not burdensome). That could be as simple as walking your dog to as complicated as training for an ironman or bodybuilding show. 3. Don't stress if your days aren't perfect. Life happens, birthdays, thanksgiving, injuries, etc...adjust as needed so that intake does not exceed your output. 4. Don't forget to be thankful for your present success. Also, give yourself a pat on the back once in a while. 5. BE KIND TO OTHERS...we've all had struggles at one time or another, otherwise we wouldn't be here.

Thanks ladies, the struggle is real, sometimes easy - sometimes harder but always worth it. I've also got some great role models that inspire me within my family and friends, that helps a ton. Oh ya, I'm 59 (and holding).

Congrats on your three years of excellent maintenance. Working hard on #1 to fine tune a powerful foundation for #2. #3-#5 are good. Find inspiration in what you do. High speed bike rides and other stuff.

Thank you so much for the post. I actually copied the list into a document. Four weeks for me since I first gained "maintenance." I'm wanting a lifetime, so I want to hang on to these bits of advice that resonate for me. I have no people IRL to whom I can look to for an example of maintaining a loss of weight. I'm so thankful for those of you who hang around helping others. Great picture!

Thank you. I really needed that. I find it easier to lose the weight but never keeping it for too long and then I am back where I started🙈

Gbeminiyi, think of hitting your goal weight as not a finish line but just a new start line. There will be inevitable ups and downs along the maintenance journey...I've found that reacting early to fat gain can sure make the journey easier and less stressful. Good luck!!

You are very welcome Melissa, I think you have a healthy and realistic fear of "slipping", that will help you stay vigilant (it does for me). Also, in my experience, some months have been remarkably easy to stay lean while the odd month has been all I can do not to regain some body fat...thankfully, getting through those "hard months" does get easier with time.

Thanks Diddlee, that biking is sure addictive and much better for me than a lot of other addictive things :)

Thanks DP, I think you've found your groove...while short term goals are important, a long term outlook will keep you on track. Take care!!
