Got together with our church community group for our weekly session last night (by myself). DW was in pretty good spirits last night; I wasn't going to rock the boat by staying too near. She said the granddaughter was actually helpful to her yesterday, so that is a good thing. Overslept. Didn't get up till like 4:15 this morning. Still managed to get on the treadmill - although it meant running a little late for work. I jogged a couple miles to warm up, then did 1/8th mile intervals for a total of 3.5 miles. Got heartrate going at 178, so I was getting a good workout. Yesterday, I bought Hal Higdon's Marathon: the Ultimate Training Guide in Kindle format. I don't have a Kindle, so I use the free Kindle for PC application. The book is an easy and entertaining read; I am finding it rather motivating and informative. Who knows, there may be a marathon in my future. I'm not ruling out the possibility. That means going from training 15 to 20 miles a week to probably 35 to 50 miles a week. Kind of scarey, but hey, I'm not getting any younger. Might have to get up at 2:30 instead of 3:30 on some days, but probably will enjoy a lot more evening runs during the summer and fall seasons. Been pretty true to my 1500 calorie a day limit this week. Finally dropped to under 220 again. Think I'll stay on this austere plan for a couple more days and then go back nearer my RDI, since I am back on track again. Well, that's it for me so far this day, but the day is young. Oh, almost forgot; I signed up for the Caterpillar Employees 5K Power Race on May 19th. That gives me over a month to train for record breaking times. NOT! (But better times). :) Hoping you all have a wonamous day!

Ryan, is this what it means to PR the sh$t out of a run?

Gross! I wouldn't finish the race if that happened to me. I'd hang my head in shame and hide. I guess I'm not a very serious runner. Yay for the 5K.

Yep, you've got to question this guy's priorities in life. :) Hope this isn't the starting line; if it is, he's going to be mighty uncomfortable very soon.

Ha...no that is what we call $hitting ourselves! Hope he had a change of clothes. If you put enough mileage in its bound to happen...but ya gotta find some cover to take care of business..you just can't ....

Missed this journal earlier...let's run Chicago next year together and have the post party at your sprawling estate!

Interesting proposition, but I've heard that the Twin Cities marathon is the one you want to do if you only do one. It's supposed to be very scenic. I can't imagine the Chicago marathon being very scenic.

Ohh man DK.. putting that picture up is NOT putting me at ease about longer weekend runs or the remote possibility that I might someday run a full marathon..!!!! Ugh...

You know, Erika; the picture is gross, and makes me apprehensive as well. But, in the picture, I see lots of trees, and this guy is still out there running in front of God and everybody. I am sure that he had an accident, but I think his exposure could have been a lot less before, or after the fact. I have even jumped into a dumpster and taken care of business, and probably looked rather foolish - but not as foolish as I would have looked had I been this guy. But, sh$t happens! I just had to throw that in there. :D

Yeah I know.. it's those hardcore runners that are trying to qualify for bigger races or win big titles that end up doing drastic things like that and not caring that everyone sees!! Definitely not me.. There were porta-potties along the race route last year at my 1/2 and I never had to stop to use one - that really surprised me, I thought I'd have an anxious bladder at least!

I also looked up a few half and full marathons, and apparently there is usually a porta pottie at the half-way mark of a half-marathon, and porta potties and fluid stations start every 2 miles and goes to every 1 mile about 1/2 way along the Twin-Cities Marathon. Lines can be a different story at the start and finish lines. According to Hal Higdon, part of the training for a half or full should include adjusting your digestive tract to the diet for the race you're going to run, and then not making any abrupt dietary changes just prior to the race.

See you at the twin cities then....Erika is going to be there too!!

I don't remember it being very scenic....

I guess if you're looking at the backside of 100,000 people, it probably isn't very scenic. :)
