Slept in again until 4:00 this morning. Decided to listen to my own preaching and not run the 15% incline to the Delicate Arch in Utah. I basically have two rules when it comes to running: 1) No back to back intense runs, and 2) 10% Rule: don't increase overall distance in any one week by more than 10%. I probably would have violated both rules had I run that trail. I had already run 3 1/4 miles on Tues and 4 1/4 on Wednesday, and this would have made three days in a row. And with my scheduled run tomorrow, that would have made 4 days in a row, and then I might not have been recovered enough to make my 8.3 mile run Sunday. Whew! It's not supposed to be this complicated! :) It's really not. If runners would adhere to these guidelines, they would get in better shape, be more likely to be injury free, and live happily ever after. Runners should run every other day, cross-train on the days they don't run and take one day off a week where you don't do anything. Will they do it? Nah, what's the fun in that?

In this short article, Jillian talks about over training - and not just running. Check it out:

Overtraining

My church community group met at one of the lady's homes last night, and wouldn't you know it, it was someone's birthday - again! But this time, one of the ladies made a very rich chocolate and cherry cake with chocolate frosting. Now, I am not going to go into just how decadent this things was - because I don't want to lead any of my FS friends astray - so, I'll just have to tell you that I weighed the pros and cons of leaving it alone, and I have to report to you that, at the time, the benefits of eating it seemed to outweigh the cost of leaving it. So, to make a long story short: it was delicious and I now have to work harder on my run tomorrow.

You can't deny yourself EVERY sweet that comes along. Otherwise, you'll derail bigger. You're doing just fine! I'm sure you'll run the calories off in your next run anyway.... and it sounds delish!

I like to take my hubby. He is a good cake sharer. ;-) I do love him for that. Going to read the article now, thanks!

I like that you made the cake decision logically, and accept the consequences. That's how a life of quality is lived! =)
