I never cook the dry ingredients. but only cook fennel and quinoa starting with 12oz hot water.
While that's cooking I mix the dry ingredients, all the powdered food, banana, etcetera separately in a clean large bowl.

In about 12 minutes when the Quinoa is done, I add the cooked ingredients and mix very thoroughly.

Everything in this breakfast is for nutritional reasons, supplying these valuable and much needed nutrients to me throughout the day, and tastes delicious. RESULTING in, NO CRAVINGS ALL DAY!! :-)

I totally get it, but it looks scary! Does it really taste good? I do make these fruit, oat and nut muffins that have that shade of blue/green from the pureed blueberries and they are tasty! Have a great weekend!

Powdered greens give me good energy, but they're always a little tough visually

Maybe it's built-in old instincts that make us want to reject blue in our foods as mold tends to be blue and eating it is bad for you (unless it's bleu cheese).

It's difficult to eat just plain spirulina, absolutely need to mix with water or a liquid, since it's SUCH a fine powder, but it doesn't have much taste to it as I recall. NASA calls it SuperFood, and astronauts use it. Lots of things we eat would taste terrible if eaten alone: spices, onion, garlic, to name a few, but mixed in foods they are delicious. and, yes, this breakfast tastes delicious. Perhaps only to me?? but I doubt that. I've had friends ask to taste it, and they claimed it was very good. I also mix peanut butter with 10% EACH of: spirulina, dried seaweed and nutritional yeast. it's green, and tastes just like peanut butter. :)

It's actually green, camera tilted it to blue in that photo, green like the prior picture of the same thing but using steel cut oats. :)

It's not pretty but if it tastes good and gets you going in the right direction, that's all that matters. :-)

I used to eat spirulina on cottage cheese.

That is one nutritional superfood! I was thinking of trying something similar, by soaking chia and some other seeds in coconut milk overnight and going from there. Your recipe gives me some ideas!

what IS that????

@ IlijaRocks: It's green, not blue, and it's my breakfast most mornings. Quinoa instead of steel cut oats, and all the ingredients listed above. Superfood! Nutrients most of us don't get near enough of. Due to lifestyle changes since 1980 (no time for breakfast now, the MOST important meal.) I eat this kind of huge breakfast, a good sized lunch, then I'm not craving anything, eat a light supper. I BURN fat at night. Instead of STORING FAT from a huge dinner. Think about it? :)

We don't need to get mad at ourselves, or the bathroom scale. Instead, put the blame where it belongs: corporations who cut our wages, increased work time and/or commute time, and took advantage of that by make THOUSANDS of tempting fast food BAD FOOD choices, that never existed before, since they weren't needed. So, now we skip or skimp on breakfast, eat donuts, coffee to stay awake, cereal? < no useful nutrients for the morning. We crave sweets & fat since that's what happens when we lack proper nutrients all DAY. :)

Have you checked out broccoli sprout's for their sulforaphane? Also, moringa and camu camu are amazing super foods.

Hey Bill, you forgot to mention that we are constantly exposed to food advertising - as if we need to be encouraged to eat more. Advertising has promoted the idea that food will help you feel better emotionally; it's equated to good times and fun with friends.

Where do you purchase those dry ingredients? Locally or online?
06 Mar 17 by member: lacain57
Those ingredients, for the most part, seem to be difficult to get. i would not have a clue where to get them.
