Good morning everyone! Last night we had out monthly fishing club meeting at IHOP. I ordered an omelet as I always do. This time I forgot to tell them to make it with whole eggs instead of their egg batter mixture. I ate the whole thing without thinking. Today I am paying the price with nagging stomach cramps and way too many trips to the bathroom. Thing is, I totally knew better since a couple months ago I felt brave and ate 1/3 of a pancake there. I had to call into work the next day after that one. I don’t know why their batter affects me so much more than other wheat products that I test from time to time. I'll chalk it up as another lesson learned.

Hope everyone has a great day.

That's a shame! We don't have IHOP in Calgary but we do have Denney's. I will go there occasionally for a breakfast that I don't have to cook. I have never had their omelet only fried eggs. Though I have noticed that the food additives that are allowed in the US are not in Canada. Even something like a Hamburger from McD's, cannot contain 'pink slime' here but it can there. Here it doesn't make me sick there, well, let's just say I need to be close to a toilet.

There is nothing in this world that would make me google "pink slime". ewwwwwww!!!

I hadn't even considered the fact that they'd use fake egg for scrambled. I never eat out. Well... once every 3 months? Maybe a little more in the summer. Thanks for making me think about that. Pink slime? Yikes.

IHOP advertises their "fluffy" scrambled eggs down here. When I went low carb I was warned about their eggs and the fact that they are full of batter. I just slipped up last night. I am feeling better now though!

Egg batter mixture?!?! Oh my word!! I shudder at what that might entail, especially if it causes such intense GI distress. That's why I gave up eating anything I don't make myself two years ago! My guess is it's something else they hide in there besides just the wheat that's causing the problems. What lurks in our foods system is pretty revolting once you dig a little deeper. Companies don't have to disclose ingredients on the label if they call it a "process", like added ammonia to ground beef's pink slime to kill off bacterial populations, or if it's "proprietary/trade secret" ingredients, which almost always means something that causes my auto-immune disease to flare up, so I don't trust anyone but myself.

Yep, I agree with you. I would pick the whole fried eggs over any "scrambled" eggs in the future. At least you can see what you are getting. Hard not to eat when your meetings take place there. Maybe you can talk them into doing a steak house next time! Good luck!

Mcdonalds Stopped using pink slime in 2011 due to the bad publicity. Not that I am defending McDonalds, their food is discusting. But I just wanted to clarify that.

I suppose my point wasn't just to slam McD's but more to just say that there are food additives that are permitted in the US that have never been permitted in Canada. That doesn't mean they never will but as people get more aware of food vs. food like products I think we will see more shifts away from mystery ingredients and more towards full disclosure. Can you get Voortman's Biscuits (cookies) in the US? They made a conscious shift away from additives several years ago. Their biscuits are more like home-made than any other off the shelf brand. Due to this some of their softer varieties loose their shape on the shelf because no stabilizers have been added. They committed to zero trans fats, not label zero but absolute zero. Some of their biscuits are really good and because you can read and understand everything on the label you know you are not having a chemical snack.

I havent seen Voortman's but that does not mean that they dont have them here. I just avoid the cookie isle all together when I am at the store. :)

What in the world is pink slime?? I don't eat at McDonald's but you have me curious! Also,, I get sick every single time I eat at IHOP- will never eat there again. (Although my husband and dd love it!) We have a wonderful restaurant here called "Wild Eggs", only fresh eggs and real ingredients! Mostly I do my own cooking and get my eggs from my own free range chickens! Now, THAT is an egg! :D

I am so jealous learning coach! That sounds like an awesome place. Its too bad that our club has to have our meetings at IHOP. Its one of the few free places in town where they will let us meet every month. And we get kinda loud sometimes, so they give us our own room.

We have a similar place called the "stairway cafe" all whole foods, fresh eggs, and house made sausages made with wild boar, venison, duck, or bison. Last time I was there I had a venison sausage benedict and the sausage had wild blueberries and bourbon in it. Fantastic.

We have nothing like that in our small town. If I want to make the drive to Austin there are several good choices like Kerby Lane and Magnolia Cafe. It's just too far breakfast though!

We don't eat out often, but for breakfast, that is our place! If you live where you can have a few chickens, I highly recommend them! Next best is going to farmer's markets and getting fee range eggs which are NOT the same as cage free! Even the free range eggs purchased at healthy grocery stores do not have the color and size my girls give me!

I completely understand. I can't each much fried food these days for the same reason. It's no wonder the whole country is on meds. Once you quit eating garbage and then come back to it, you wonder how you ever survived up to this point. And I'm not even talking about "clean" eating. I still eat as some restaurants, but I've dropped the fast food and fried stuff and go for salads with meat for the most part. For breads, I'm a big fan of the Ezekiel 4:9 brands. I had one slice of french toast made from that the other day when my daughter was making breakfast for a friend. Lots of butter and a drizzle of maple syrup. ;-)

Our bodies are really amazing if you want to look at it that way. We slowly adjusted over time to be able to eat crappy food and not get outwardly sick from it. This reminds me of the statement on the GMO corn website. It says that if the corn hurts your stomach, just keep eating it and your body will adjust. WTH!!! Your body should not have to adjust to ANY food. Food is our energy and our medicine. I sure wish everyone would quit messing it up!!

I'm fairly certain GMO Bt Corn and Round-up Ready Soy were the catalyst of my autoimmune disease! Once I removed them from my diet, I completely healed! The body's capacity to heal is astounding if you stop damaging it and get out of its way!

When I order eggs at a restaurant I don't trust, I get them boiled. Sounds boring, but I don't want anything added to my scrambled eggs and I don't want my fried eggs cooked in vegetable oil.
